Despite its typical terseness, I believe that your enigmatic comment is
referring to the great French physician Pierre Louis, whose careful
attention to detail and "numerical method" led to great advances in the
application of statistics to medicine. His work led to the abandonment of
bloodletting as a standard treatment and ushered in the era of modern
medicine.

This is indeed a fine example of applied skepticism and an enlightened model
to follow. A tip o' the hat to you.
