[poster: Liberty Miller]
[date: 2007-01-23 ]

I'd also like to chime in with a request for Japanese encoding support
(in particular, EUC-JP).

Unicode is great, and works for many things, but it doesn't help if the file
you are trying to open was encoded with a different language in the first place.
(For example, doing a "View Source" with Notepad ++ set as the default html
viewer when the page is Japanese, Korean, etc.)

= How to Convert Existing Text Files from Asian languages to UTF-8 =

For Dave, and anyone else interested, here's a workaround for Windows XP with
Asian language support enabled:

1. Open the document you are interested in in Notepad (the oldy but goody);
2. Use "Save as..." and select "Save as type:" [Text] ; "Encoding:" [UTF-8] ;
3. Now you should be able to open the file with Notepad++ (because, hopefully,
you've converted the file from X encoding to UTF-8....)

Hope that helps,
Liberty

----
Reference for Notepad++ version 3.8:
 format = 0/1/2 -> win/unix/mac
 encoding = 0/1/2/3/4/5 -> ANSI / UCS2Big / UCS2small / UTF8 / UTF8-BOM*

(UTF minus BOM, i.e. without BOM)

Hello Don,
When I'm editing C file ( size is about 1,5 Mb) NP++ is hanging for a some time.
This happens due to the syntax highlighting reparsing in real time. Is it
possible
to add some timeout to prevent re-parsing in real time? I think re-parsing
should
be perforemed after some Idle. On my computer PIV 3.04 HT and 512RAM NP++ is
pretty uncomfortable editor because of this issue.

Best regards,
Alexander

You can right click on the middle bar (the separator between two views), then
select "Rotate to left" or "Rotate to Right")

I tested this : In Column Select mode, (Rc2, Win2K) and it fails to work, and
also does something strange to the text, shuffles it about.

It's probably similar to search and replace: InSelection bug,
which also fails across the Column-select boundaries.

Lots of fish-hooks in Column Select modes...

Theoretically, no limit.

When open a 50M file, just a little delay occurs.
However, if the file with format(.xml...) notepad++ need to process, the dealy
will be obvious, even in intolerable.

i think the "vi" mean by the thread starter is...
is that Notepad++ supports "vi" editing functions; such as "shift + G" will
direct us to the end of page.
i also hope that Notepad++ can support vi editing functions!!

correct me, if i''m wrong.

Correct, but anyone using the Download/Un-Zip install pathway (not the full
installer)
will have to take care, as the ZIP file contains shortcuts.xml

Most users will be like me, and keep a copy of their modified files, in
a separate directory, as a reference and backup - right ? :)

I'd like to request a feature that will allow me to edit readonly files. I mean
if this option is on - i can modify file in Notepad++ but can not save (only
save as)
This option will be useful when reading readonly files with non windows encoding
cos ConvertExt plugin not works until ClearReadOnly flag.

Hi, Don :)))

Is it possible to add a feature via Settings dialog to select mouse button to
click on tab's close button, e.g. like in Maxthon/MyIE2?

In all case, the N++ is the best syntax highlightin' editor for Windoze, so
thanx for it )))))

Brilliant! The last piece of functionality that my old TextPad editor had that
Notepad++ didn't has now been added.

It is so convenient to Ctrl+Tab to a file to maybe cut/paste some text and then
Ctrl+Tab back to the document you were last working on, rather than simply the
next document in the list.

Thank you.

I do however have a request.

In 3.9 I turned off the "Enable document switcher" option because, from a
usability
point of view I found it distracting when it popped up as I typically am
watching
the tabs each time I press Ctrl+Tab and having something pop up over my document
was annoying (plus it stops the tabs from "animating" until you've Ctrl+Tabbed
to your chosen document.

In 4.0 ss it not technically possible to allow users to tick the "Enable MRU
behaviour" and at the same time not display the "document switcher", rather
letting users focus on the tabs which show document focus perfectly?

A small technicality I know but from the "hurrah!" I made when I saw the option
to the "oh dear" I made when I realised I HAD to have the "document switcher"
enabled it would, for me, make Notepad++ complete.

Thanks again for all your work on this excellent editor.

Charley Farley
