on notepad startup, when loading previous opened files, not checking if they
are still files (and not directories).
steps:
open notepad
create new file and save it "file"
close notepad
delete that file "file"
create a directory with the same name as the file "file"
open notepad -> crash.

I use notpad++ and filezilla and on filezilla i defined my text editor as
notepad++,
all i have to do is to open the file from ftp edit it on notepad++ and when
i save it filezilla ask me for to update the modified file, so i think maybe
notpad++ can have a way to define an FTP client for to upload and download
files,
not necesary to build a new FTP clien

I hope there is a way to do this. I want to be able to have Notepad++ create
a blank document when it is started and an instance already exists, not just
display the currently open document. Is there a command line switch or other
technique I can use. I could write a wrapper that starts it with the command
line for a file name that I randomly generate. However, this would have two
problems, it still asks if I want to create the document (requires a extra
click)
and I might not actually want the document to be written to disk. I need this
feature to replace Notepad with a mutli-tab Notepad++.

Maybe your installation defaults are different. I think nppcm.dll is installed
when you enable the Explorer Context Menu. Were you using that earlier?
I don't use Vista, so I can't really be of help, but it is my understanding
that it doesn't like giving an application the rights it might have abused under
WinXP and earlier. Apps should not write to their install directory, for
example.
Maybe you can fix it by running it in WinXP or Win2K or Win9X compatibility
mode. Or maybe you can try re-installing it with a different selection for
whether you use %APPDATA% or not. --Joel

Are you putting the executable that you create into a standard Notepad++
installation
directory and running it from there? It needs support DLLs like SciLexer.dll,
and may need to find that info in the registry or relative to an expected
path...

There's a column editing mode. Check out the online help, available on the
4.1.2 or later help menu; it's right on the "Online Help" page that appears.
There's currently no FTP support. Camps are split on this. I like my editor
lightweight, so I hope that if they implement it, it's an optional plug-in that
I can remove. (I work on local copies, so that I always have a backup of what's
available via the web...) --Joel

Split lines is meant to insert line breaks (e.g., CR/LF pairs) at the word-wrap
length, either based on the window width currently used by Notepad++ or by the
number stored in the clipboard. See the associated help file that came with
your distribution, probably in <Notepad++ installation
directory>\plugins\NPPTextFX.
In other words, it is not what you are looking for.
There's a pretty-print option to Tidy that you can configure by creating a
custom
htmltidy.cfg file, I think. You might be able to keep it from converting
characters
to &-#; via a setting. See the TextFX > TextFX HTML Tidy menu for places to
go and docs to see.
The last option would be to use regex (regular expressions). Scintilla's
implementation is limited, though. There's a joke that goes something like
this:
You have a problem. You say, "I know! I'll use regular expressions!" Now you
have _two_ problems.

You may have to make lang.xml changes outside of Notepad++. Some configuration
files are overwritten by Notepad++ when it is closed.
Also, there are two possible places for the configuration files, now. One is
in the Notepad++ installation directory. The other is in the
%APPDATA%\Notepad++
directory. It might be using the one you didn't change. --Joel

You may be able to edit langs.xml and enhance the TeX section to look like one
of the other languages. The version I have already has % as a comment
character,
but nothing else. (This might be because I didn't install support for it at
installation time.)

It may not be buildable with MinGW out of the box. I know there were quite
a few discussions about this, but I don't believe anyone came up with a
satisfactory
solution beyond "Use Visual Studio C++". Maybe you can debug the problem and

Use the Run command (default key is F5) and then enter something like this:
opera "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"
You may need to put the command to start Opera where the word "opera" appears
above. For example:
"C:\Program Files\Opera\Opera902W.exe" "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"
You might need to do some experimenting by clicking the "Run!" button on the
dialog. When it works, click the "Save..." button and give it a name like
"Launch
in Opera" and a hotkey combination to launch it. --Joel
