NotePad++ is a wonderful editor that I don' want to miss any more. Just a short
hint what can be improved:
N++ is trying to restore the old screen position that it had when it was closed
for the last time. This goes wrong in the following case: I used to have two
monitors and opened N++ on the second one. Some day I had to turn off the second
monitor and N++ did not appear on the screen any more, except in maximized mode.
So I would suggest to implement a check on startup, whether the stored position
is valid, before overtaking it. Thank you! :-)

Hi,
I'm using Notepad++ for a few days and I've a question to autocompletion:
In menu TextFX there is a submenu TextFXSettings, where I checked +Autoclose
XHTML/XML <Tag>, so every written html-tag will be closed.
That's very fine but everytime I do a line-break with 'Enter'-key Notepad++
makes a <br />, it is really bothersome to delete the <br />'s again.
Could I switch it somewhere off?
I want only to complete html-tags but not that every press on the enter-key
causes a <br />.
greetings leenie

These functions would make my life easier..
Trim Selected Line
Trim Selection
Trim Selection (Remove CRLFs) to create a single line of code.
I code an application that has a character limit where individual sql statements
are stored, so removing all unnecessary space etc is a huge advantage.

It would be nice, if one could edit multiple lines at once:
Select multiple lines with a rectangular selection and write to this
lines at once. Shold also work for for special keys like delete or backspace.
This would be usefull for example to fast comment or uncomment a block
of code. See Jedit.org for an example.

I'm using Notepad++ 4.02 on WinXP.
I'll be happily editing away when suddenly alternate characters start appearing.
For example I'll try and type the "#" character and get an "/" instead, and
so on.
I have no idea what key sequence I type to trigger this switch, and have never
been able to find out how to get back to 'normal' without closing and restarting
the app.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance.

There are multiple threads on this topic, but I don't see any responses... If
I have two versions of a file side by side, how can I compare the differences?
Is there a way to highlight them or limit the display to just the differences?
Thanks.

Your obviously an ex borland person too !!
you are probably pressing F9 (borland compile-and-run) which actually switches
to some sort of extended text function, pressing F9 again fixes it
Hope that helps

I have been trying to get the stylers.xml to work for me.
I have made several changes to the color scheme of my Notepad++ (light text
on black background). After making all those changes manually, I opened the
stylers.xml file and found that it doesn't correspond to my changes at all.
I guess this feature is buggy or hasn't been fully implemented yet. Do any
of the developers have more information?
Thanks!
James

I have the same problem right now and can't for the life of me find where
notepad++
is saving it's window position. Anyone have a suggestion on resetting it?

It isn't what you describe, but have you looked at Plugins/TextFX Edit/Insert
(clipboard) through lines?. It'll insert the contents of the clipboard at the
start of the selected lines, or, of you've made a block selection, insert it
at the start of the block on each line.

I don't think Notepad++ can do differences. I like the JFC comparison utility
in Ztree. Still, it would be nice to see the differences in an editor if you're
trying to make certain lines the same.

You obviously don't know about the multi-view feature. Have a read of
http://notepad-plus.wiki.sourceforge.net/Multi-ViewHowTo .
