Hi,

I have recently download npp4.3. I uninstalled npp4.0.2 (my previous version)
and installed 4.3. However, i cannot register any files with it. It will not
come up in the "Open With" menu. I can run it by using a shortcut. This has
happened with 2 machines already. Uninstalling 4.3 and reverting to an earlier
version does not work. I've had a look in the registry and even if i manually
edit HK_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Current Version
-> Explorer -> FileExts -> .txt -> (Default) or the sub categories
[OpenWithList]
and [OpenWitProgids] but it still won't open in npp - it just brings up the
"Open With" menu again.

I even created a new file extension and created a string value after it called
application and put notepad++.exe as the value, again the "Open With" appeared
again.

So basically, i cannot use npp for double clicking on any files now. Any ideas?

Jason.

I agree completely with this. N++ is a very very nice editor that I use daily
and this is my major annoyance with it.

With all respect, it doesn't sound very complicated to fix. All that it has
to do is to check check after "Save As..." if there is a file extension entered
after the file name, and if not, add the default extension for the document
type.

Thanks for an otherwise brilliant editor.

Looks like it was a registry problem. looking for notepad++.exe in the registry
i can find many references to v4.0.25 - that installer may not have cleaned
up after itself. Fixing these to the correct path to the v4.3 install seems
to work.

I think N++ is designed and implemented as an editor, not a big file viewer,
because the underlying algorithm will be totally different for these tasks.
if you need to scan/view big files, use some other log analyzers. can you image
someone is going to edit even a 5MB source code for whatever progarmming
language?

I'm personally using baretail and baregrep, which is the best tool for viewing
big files (is 2GB+ file enough for your need?) and it works efficiently.

don't mix them up.

Hi Harry

Latest version above behaves much the same. I'm having problems opening folders
(sometimes even the root folder) when connected to my web site. It says "Getting
directory contents" and message window is sitting on:
Response (200): Type set to A
-> LIST
Response (150): Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list

Click on root folder again and subfolders appear, click on them and nothing
happens however many times I try. If I click to disconnect I get a "Disconnect
problem" and no messages.

I can do that without any problem with version 0.9.1.2 created 18 September
2007 19:54:50. Works perfectly.

I can get crashes if I make the Explorer tab on top and close N++ but not
always,
some improvement as before it did it every time.

So generally on the crash issue more stable than version 0.9.2.0 created 21
September 2007 16:14:12 but not as good as 0.9.1.2 although here I can get
crashes
if I connect, get a file, disconnect and close N++. Again not always.

Not much use to you I know, it is so unpredictable now. The main issue is that
it doesn't work now :-(
So still using 0.9.1.2.

Mark B

Hello,

I wouldn't mind donating, however I dont want to have to sign up for a
sourceforge
account in order to do so. Do you have a mailing address I can send it to or
a soultion that doesnt involve having to make an account somewhere?

Thank you.

I noticed that when I copied my Notepad++ folder to another system, all my color
configurations were lost. Are these stored somewhere else? If so, where?

Thanks.

I don't really understand the question. Do you want multiple instances of NPP?
There's a command line switch to do that: "-multiInst". Check out the FAQ at
the website linked on the help menu.

I don't know if the tabs can be removed, but if you only open NPP with that
command line switch, it won't have multiple tabs for each file. Maybe you can
change the file association entry in the registry; search for "notepad++.exe
%1" or something like that and add the switch before the %1.

I'm not seeing this. Haven't tried 4.3 yet.

Maybe a TextFX Viz setting?

If you are using C++, consider using the QuickText plugin to do this when you
press ctrl-Enter.
