please could there be a menu option &or shortcut to toggle nul, SYN etc and
other special characters being displayed, may log files are completely
unreadable
as the grandparent poster has mentioned.
It's something I've been surprised isn't there in n++ for nearly a year now tbh.

I've just recently tried out Notepad++ as a replacement for Crimson Editor,
and I must say it is an excellent editor with pretty much all the features I
am looking for. However, I find myself going back to Crimson Editor for column
mode editing, the Notepad++ column mode just doesn't seem to work very well
compared to Crimson. The reason I like Crimson so much is that once you enter
"column-mode" there is no worry about whitespace, so you can select blocks of
code that may or may not have multiple line-breaks between them, and you can
also insert a column of text anywhere in blank lines, regardless of if there
are any whitespace characters.
In short, I think a re-look at the column mode of Notepad++ would be an
excellent
improvement. Anyone else agree?

Apparently, my last attempt to be removed from the list was this time
successful.
I don't get any emails any more so far.
Thanks anyhow, Don, for searching this on up.
Best rgds,

Hi, I've just installed the newest version of Notepadd ++. I've had notepad
since July and have only been able to successfully open a session ONCE. Today
I tried to figure out how to get them to work again but have not been able to
fix the problem.
While having a group of files open for a website I am working on (an htm file,
a css file, and js file for example), I've tried saving the file just as aplus
or as aplus.xml
Whenever I try loading the session file the program cycles through each file
in the session (the htm, css, and js files), shows the path and file name (which
are correct!) and says "This file does not exist. Create it?" but all the
files DO exist! If I press yes just for fun the program crashes. If I say
cancel nothing happens of course.
Anyone know how to get Notepad++ to recognize that the files do exist?
Lithriel

Are there any plans to allow configuration of the forecolor of selected text?
In most editors, when you select text, the forecolor is usually WHITE, but there
is no way to emulate this type of behaviour in Notepad++ because currently it
does not let you change the fore color of selected text to any other settings
besides gray.

As Don says QuickText is what you are looking for.
It sits in the Plugins menu. How it works for PHP would be:
1. Go into the Options for QuickText.
2. Highlight PHP on the left hand side.
3. In the Tag Name field you place the name of the shortcut you want. I will
use the example: php1
4. Type something like the following in the Substitution Text box:
<?php
include(myincludefile.php);
\$myvar = '$';
?>
5. Then click the Add/Modify button. (This is very important).
6. Now click OK to return to Notepad++.
7. Make sure you are working in PHP (in the menu Language > PHP).
8. Type php1 into your notepad++ and then press CTRL+Enter.
9. This should make the little code snippet appear that we typed above.
You will note that the $ symbol is used in QuickText to place the cursor where
required so you can just start typing away if you always type in a certain
place.
You have to excape a $ symbol by usinbg \$ to get it to actually show int the
text.
QuickText saves me so much time it is not funny! Common things like if..else
or functions etc are easily programmed into QuickText.
Enjoy... :)

Sorry I should have said that your cursor has to be sitting next to the tag
you create when pressing CTRL+Enter. In my example it the tag is php1.

discovered!!!?!?!)
that is a similar example to the one I gave before on this.

There is another really good reason to use <?php to open your tags rather than
just the short tag <?.
Not all servers support php short tags. It is shocking I know but there you
go. If you want your code to be at all able to work on another server with
as little pain as possible then I suggest changing all <? to <?php.
Hey and guess what. It isn't going to be as painful as you think! Notepad++
has a "find and replace on all open documents" feature! :-D
Enjoy.

There is another alternative. Record a macro where you press the END key and
then the words etc then DOWN ARROW.
I use this feature a bit because you can specify a multi run macro that plays
it either a certain number of times or until the end of the document. :)
