Got time to try up to version 4.4 . 4.3 doesn't exhibit the difficulties
described
by ke3pup. They start for me as well with 4.4 .
For what it's worth, on the surface of things, the graphic layout's changed
in 4.4, when one does a save or save as. It's not the classic one, the one
always used before up to and including 4.3 . Perhaps there's something there
to note? Hopefully helpful.

C? That's something you could do and did yourself. I think that's better than
yelling that somebody else should do these things.
You seem to at least have a work-around now.
Doctor says: it may hurt a little now, but in short time it will pass.
Meanwhile, medicine may come up.

Now, now..try not to be so condescending! :-))
In fact, tried lots of stuff, before logging on to the forum, to find here
I wasn't the only one with the same exact problem, eh? And for several days,
at least publicly...here...nothing but what's your configuration, try renaming,
etc... . All of which one shouldn't have to do. Not at all.
To me at any rate, unfortunately, some of 4.4's code and then again 4.5's
is the issue.
But, that will be decided by the creators, developers, eh? Not me, of course.
Seen completely from the outside, it seem, though, to be the case.
I'm sure, given time, one will iron it out satisfactorily. To one's relief
and my gratitude. For sure! :-)

It's easy to say "I got a problem, you have to solve it."
If you got in an accident, you may expect the question "How did this happen?".
However, it seems you expect the expert to figure that out for himself when
trying to help you.

This crashing issue chasing me even in my dream becomes a nightmare to me.
It seems the save dialog doesn't work for the configuration xp+sp2 (I tested
on my xp+sp3 and vista machine with no crash).
Since I can not reproduce the crash, I did a binary does the tracking :
1. Please download binary herer :
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/misc/notepad++.zip
2. Unzip it to your installed Notepad++ folder. Then run it.
3. Launch the "save as" dialog to make Notepad++ crash.
4. Find the c:\savelog.txt then post the content.
I hope it can help me to solve this problem.

I've found out how to do it:
First:
replace the owner on:
C:\windows\notepad.exe and C:\windows\system32\notepad.exe
(Set owner to your user or to administrator just make sure you can write to
it)
Then:
Replace permissions on both files (make it so that you have "full permissions")
Then replace both the files with the NPP launcher.
Et viola it works.

notepad2)

Hey,
I am rebuilding everything every few weeks, reverting VMware snapshots, and
I install Notepad++ daily.
This may sound silly but my main reason for installing Notepad++ is to be able
to have a black background and a multicolored foreground.
So it would be awesome if there was a default "black backgound" style that I
could switch to with one click instead of having to spend time fixing everything
to be black background. The current line is just less than black. Highlighted
text is dark grey.
That would be cool.
Maybe there is something easy I can do for now, like copy over a config file
after I install or something.

I like how Konsole in KDE you can quickly click "Green on Black" to do this.

This is with 4.5, on an XP Pro sp2 workstation, or rather standalone pc, unit.
4.5 is configured to use all the default options during the setup process,
but I never check that business regarding the USB stuff.
XP Pro doesn't yet have service pack 3, not til next year? .. as you no doubt,
of course, know.

ok trying to open an existing file,then making changes to it, Save and then
trying File->"Save as" still crashes notepad++!
Clicking File->"Save Session" also crashes notepad++ just like File->"Save as"
.
