The file you want to copy is shortcuts.xml. Since you've already tried copying
the xml files, my guess is that either you're either copying it from or to the
wrong place. The file can be in one of two places. If you have a
doLocalConf.xml
file in your Notepad++ program folder, that means it's using the local folder
as its data path, so the shortcuts.xml file should be there. If you don't have
that file, then it will be in your application data folder. The easiest way
to get there is to choose Run from the Windows Start menu, then type
"%APPDATA%\notepad++" (including the quotes). Click OK.

Bear in mind that it may be set up as a local configuration on one computer
and not the other, so you might need to do some experimenting to get it to work.

I hope this helps.

I would also like to see an option to allow User Defined languages to override
the "Global Settings: Default" page background and foreground colors. I
primarily
code in Assembly with a black background and colored foreground, but if I open
an XML file or something like that, the text background is white with a black
page background because of my global settings change. If I could make my
assembly
settings override the global default, I can leave it as white foreground and
black background, and have all languages work properly.

Thanks for the fast and thorough explanation! My shortcuts.xml was in the
application
data folder and I was only copying the xml files from the program folder.

I like Notepad++ but have one issue - When I open files with the context menu
(Right Click --> Open with Notepad++) it always opens the file in a new tab
in an existing window. I open many different file types and don't want to
always
associate all the files with notepad. Is there a way to get the context menu
to open a new instance of Notepad++?

Thanks

Is there a keyboard shortcut to clicking "Window | Windows..."?
I know ctrl-tab lists the windows, but it's not the same.
I tried to make a macro but macros don't record mouse clicks;)

thanks,
Randy

Don:

You're already my hero for developing Notepad++ in the first place.

I've already tried the example you linked to, and it works fine to show how
to set up a plugin and attach it to the menus, but it doesn't show how to
interface
with the actual text of the document.

Don't worry, though. Zobo sent me an example that looks like it does just what
I need. It's actually starting to make sense. I'll play around with it a
little
and hopefully get it figured out.

To all 3 of you, thanks for all your help.

If I do understand you, you'll create a new script language, right?
If so, it's interesting. Let me know if you need some help.

The lastest version doesn't work right on Vista 64 bit. it's missing the shell
plugin for opening files with N++ by right clicking
