Just wanted to say that I liked the old colors better.

The background colors of different lines are too light. I can't tell from a
first glance when scrolling through a file what kind of difference lines are.
I would really like some slightly darker coloring.

I guess the best way to do this if simply find and replace all occurrences of
1000 at the start of each line by either looking for a newline before the 1000
or using regular expressions. Column mode is slow, especially with large
selections.

CTRL+F or CTRL+R to open dialog.

Find:
^1000

Replace: leave this field empty

Check regular expressions.
Replace all.

Try by hotkey (ie same key that triggers the dialog) or just monitor for
scintilla
notifications that the selection has changed (SCN_UPDATEUI). I dont think its
that heavy on the CPU to calculate the options, styling is probably much
heavier.
I think it would be nice if you could change the UI so it can be docked, maybe
alter the amount of rows/columns of buttons depending on the size of the window,
adding a scrollbar besides or below them (Just a guess, but I think if you
change
some characters its likely that you will change to the same type, ie ANSI to
ANSI HEX \x## or 0x##, maybe even always display the first column but scroll
all the other ones).
BTW, if you ever were going to make a dockable dialog out of it, it
automatically
becomes a modeless dialog ;).

And oh, you can find nice icons at famfamfam, most of Notepad++ uses them.

That's a fair point.
A lot of the feedback I received about the old version was about how the colors
were too dark. It sometimes made it too hard to read the actual text. In fact,
some people didn't even realize that the actual changes were highlighted within
a line!

Luckily though, you can easily change the colors to your preference by altering
the compare.ini. If your running the local version, than its in the plugins
config folder. Otherwise, it'll be in %appdata%\Notepad++

> full justification would actually detract from column mode

Well, hmm, I understand what you're saying, but in my experience it hasn't,
though various text editors I've used that support both column mode and full
justification handle their interaction differently.

Just so folks don't think I'm talking out of my hat, three text editors I've
used that support both column mode and full justification are Aurora (DOS only),
Boxer and TSE. Both Boxer and TSE, like N++, are specifically intended as a
programmer's editor (in case anyone wants to argue that programmers don't want
justification). Another (GPLed) editor, which I've only played with, is Cream.
It claims to support both columns and justification, but I can't figure out
how to get them to work.

Back to your comment: in Aurora, if you select a columnar block then do a
justify,
text is re-wrapped and justified within the confines of the left and right
margins
of the defined column; i.e., it's a quick visual way to set both left and right
margins of your paragraph; very handy. Boxer, OTOH, simply justifies the text
within the columnar block, without re-wrapping the paragraph. In TSE, IIRC,
if you try selecting a column then doing anything non-column/non-text block
related, the block is unmarked first.

All of that is just to say 1) there ARE text editors which support both columnar
operations and justification; 2) there are, specifically, programmer-oriented
text editors which support both; and 3) column mode and justification can and
do work together, sometimes quite well.

> Just as a general response to all "Notepad++ should have Feature X" posts:

Yes, of course, though I didn't say "should". I'm simply suggesting, as a member
of the N++ community, a feature I would like to see added to N++. That's one
of the functions of the community, no? Whether the feature is added, as you've
said, depends on both the will of the community and of the developer(s). If
the N++ community isn't interested in the feature, so be it. I simply don't
think it's true that justification is incompatible either with code editing
or column mode.

Hi,
my default language syntax is normal text. However I often edit some
autohotkey.ahk
files, and for that purpose I change the language to AutoIt. Is there a way
to make notepad detect that I loaded a .ahk file, not .txt, and automatically
select the right syntax?
Thanks!

Hi All,
I just downloaded NotePad Plus 4.7.5 and was wondering if there is a way to
select vertically?

Foe example:

10006827,000000421,00841-0-0,00841-0,00841
10006835,000000422,00841-0-0,00841-0,00841
10006843,000000423,00841-0-0,00841-0,00841
10006850,000000424,00841-0-0,00841-0,00841
10006868,000000425,00841-0-0,00841-0,00841
10006876,000000426,00841-0-0,00841-0,00841

I have this file with thousands of rows and I need to remove the 1000 from the
beginning of each row. I know that I can use a macro to do that but a vertical
selection will be even better.

Thanks in advance
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Not sure I fully understand what you're trying to do, but have you tried the
column editor (alt+c)? It lets you insert or replace columns with series.

Did you find the color scheme or port for this? That would totally rock! I'm
not even sure how to translate the XML from the original textmate theme to the
notepad++ theme.
