Hallo Ryan,
what does it? I don't know the expression "to hand". Does Notepad freeze?
Occours
an exception/crash? However, I have here no problem with creating subgroups
in Explorer. The only known issue is the handle leak at the moment. Do you work
on XP?

There is a problem, however. I tried a replace action using the CTRL+R advanced
Find/Replace dialog. I was using a regular expression. I wanted to replace all
occurrences. Notepad++ took off, went on and never ended, because it was finding
and "replacing" the same match over and over again. This file was also
read-only.
I think it would be better to show a warning when trying to replace in a
read-only
file, or simply disable the replacing options at all for read-only buffers.
I had to brutally kill Notepad++ to be able to do something again, and of course
lost all my unsaved changes by doing that.

HexEditor is causing the problem (v0.8.4).
Disabling it does the trick, at least for polish characters.

Try to do the same without any plugin (rename Plugins folder or remove all
dll-files
from this folder). Most likely, Notepad++ will not crash anymore. If so, then
give the dll-files back to the Plugins folder, one by one, to understand what
plugin (dll-file) causes the crash.

Thanks for your reply DV, but I'm sorry to report that that has not fixed the
problem.
As a temporary fix, I uninstalled version 4, and went back to version 3 and
that seems to be working fine so far. That's a shame because I liked the look
of version 4, so it'd be good to get that working.
Is it possible there was a conflict of some sort caused by having both version
3 and 4 on my system? Are there registry keys that need to be weeded out before
installing version 4?
