Ok that's interesting, just struck me as a weird behaviour to have as default.
Be cool if the default was to only indent when you start

I've disabled the auto-indent feature in the prefs now so it works exactly how
I want it.

I was wondering though, I use Tabs to indent my PHP code - I understand that
this is not advised, and that you should use spaces instead
Many open-source PHP scripts I've messes around with use 4 spaces as the
standard
indent

Is there a way so that in Notepad++, you can make it so that pressing tab
actually
inserts 4 spaces instead of a tab?

That would be mega-cool!

Thanks, B

Take a look at the shortcutmapper, there are different jump-to-end-of-line
options,
remap the END key to whichever one you like best.Currently Alt-End seems to
do what you want, just remap them (Its in the Scintilla commands tab, dont
forget
to press apply)

Sounds like some subsystem application is having some memory access problems
(ie faulty programming).
Which version of Notepad++ are you using? 4.8.1 and 4.8 (or jsut 4.8) can cause
blue screen, 4.8.2 has this fixed (its the auto-updater so you have to use the
installer to fix it)

I definitley use this feature often, because the autodetection of changes in
opened files is sometimes a little bit lazy when having logfiles open in npp.
What I would like to have is a shortcut binding for "reload from disk", e.g.
with "Ctrl+Shift+R"... shall I submit a feature request for this?

...and btw: thanks for this excellent editor! :)

Hi everyone

Just started using Notepad++ as my primary editor - replacing the long-serving
NoteTab. It's an amazing bit of software, so a big thanks to all the developers
- you have done an amazing job!

I have a few questions:

1) To have any HTML code within a PHP file, also highlighted
I have many PHP documents that echo out HTML code in heredoc syntax, eg:
echo <<<HTML
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
etc...
HTML;

What would be mega-cool is that when you have a PHP document open, any HTML
code within say <<<HTML and HTML; gets highlighted per the HTML rules.
It would even cooler, if you could customise the heredoc open/close string to
whatever you wanted.

2) A way to get all PHP built-in functions highlighted in some way?
I found this... http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4599558
But didn't know if it would break anything if I tried it out.

3) I use the 'portable' version of the program, without an installer and when
I new version is released I just unzip it into the current folder.
Obviously this overwrites my preferences - which files do I need to keep hold
of to preserve my prefs?
Is it just the config.xml, or is it other files as well?

Thanks, B

4) PHP curly brackets
The thing I love about Notepad++ is the way that the open/closing curly brackets
get highlighted in red when you click next to them.
It would be so, so cool if they were highlighted when you were clicked anywhere
inside them, not just when the cursor is right next to them.

Q : Every time I need to go to Language-->Java but I'm sure that there is other
way, right?
A : Yes - add jsp to extensions using java highlighting
In Settings --> Styler Configurator ...
  Under Language: select Java

at the bottom of the window you will see
  default ext :
    java
next to that is
  User ext :
    type jsp in the box
    click "Save and Close" or "Apply"

I want to use the ftp plugin to alter a .htacces file but in my ftp windows
I don't see the file. Do I need to set a preference for my connection to have
.htacces files to show in the ftp explorer?
