There seems to be something wrong with clipboard formats. If you copy some text from wordpad and paste it in notepad++, you'll get some garbage characters pasted too. Thanks again to DonHo and Harry for developing Notepad++ ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. I think the problem is UTF-8, not clipboard content. If you copy text with special characters, like ? or ?, from Word or Wordpad to Notepad++ in UTF-8 (or UTF-8 without BOM) you get strange, incorrect characters. If you copy the same text in Notepad++ with ANSI everything is OK. And it's also the other way around: copy text with special charaters from Notepad++ in UTF-8 (or UTF-8 without BOM) to e.g. Word and again you get incorrect characters. If you copy the same text using Notepad++ with ANSI everything is OK. Bottom line: UTF-8 is the bad boy. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Is there a way to define a new language syntax using an existing one as a template? I would like to make the syntax highlighting for the jscript based ASP (as opposed to the commonly used vbscript based ASP). I don't see any point in redefining the highlighting syntax from scratch when I need to replace vbscript keywords with jscript keywords only. Can anyone help please? ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. No "previous" document, no annoying little popup just cycling. Settings - Preferences - MISC - Document switcher (Ctrl+TAB). > Allow Bold/Italics/Underline in text files (perhaps possible already). > I understand if everybody shouts at me now "it's a development tool, > not a text editor!" Oh wait, it *is* a text editor. :-) I suppose you wanted to say "It's a text editor, not a word processor". The plain text files simply provide no means to store additional formatting information (i.e. which piece of text is to be bold, etc.). Syntax highlighters for source code analyze the text based on predefined patterns. You could use WordPad for your doodling needs, the RTF format has all the necessary facilities. PS: I'm not saying there is no way to colorize text arbitrarily, but it would require writing a plugin for that purpose. Any takers? ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Or give me source codes. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. If I use the Paste entry in the Edit menu to paste the same content from the clipboard, it only pastes the printable characters. I'm on 4.9.1. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. I suddenly remember that GridinSoft Notepad had the same annoying bug too a few years ago. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Yes, some are already there and several times these things have been asked and answered to (or not, that's also possible). Some people think they have some superb suggestion and say it is very important when they ask for it. I keep seeing the same things asked again. It would be nice if one searched the forums first before asking something that is already there. It keeps new threads from being created, which also keeps the number of find results small when someone else does search for the something first. It also makes you think and read first before just putting another request on the forum. Some people think the number of threads or messages about a subject does count for the importance of it. Perhaps they can imagine that simply starting another thread about the same subject isn't really encouraging to keep up with and reading all the "new" and "important" requests. Perhaps they can imagine that these new threads will be ignored and they get no answer (again). If there are already a number of threads about the same request or issue and there has never come an answer to it, why ask for it again? If you want to bring something back into focus, just do so by replying to a thread that already deals with the request or issue. > Right now, it's useless to me. ... Perhaps it's a Java disease. Some request are also not very nice in their descriptions. If you find something useless, that's OK. But just don't say that it SHOULD be implemented in another way. > Auto format code. There are other tools available to do so. > Find in files should allow you to replace as well. There are other tools available for this as well. What do you want Notepad++ to be? Something that allows you to edit ANYTHING that is on any of your hard or remote drives? I don't think it's very unfair to expect you to open any document you want to change inside Notepad++. Because if Notepad++ is to change files it hasn't opened in a tab, the next thing you may require is an undo function for it, if perhaps you were so smart to change files you didn't intend to. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum.
