starting a thread with a "simple but very important features missing" title.
I wished to be able to change it once I came to understand the nature of this
forum. My first impression was, that posting this would make someone quickly
reply that my request was built in for ages and can be found under plugins or
somewhere similar. only then did I realize that my post could potentially only
disturb and waste the time of many advanced users. sorry.

thanks to don for being polite (it doesn't matter that much whether he decides
to build it in or not).

Great software! I love it and use it everyday in my work. Just loved the new
highlighting functions. NP++ is simply getting better in each release.

Thanks Don HO!

You can use my ReloadButton plugin which can be downloaded here:
http://www.jhaefner.de/Download/ReloadButton.zip
Just klick on it to reload the current file.
To set a propriate shortcut (like F5), just use the shortcut manager of NPP.

wkr,
JOE

what do you want to achieve with your thread? Which kind of readers' attention
do you want to attract?

1. You want a quick reply. Why, was it so urgent?
2. You wanted to hear it was already there. Don't you think you might have found
the feature yourself by (first) looking in Notepad++ or the Plugins menu?
3. If you suspect that it is already there, perhaps you could think that also
someone before you might have looked for it and didn't find it and asked the
same question before.

> only then did I realize that my post could potentially only disturb and waste
the time

I dunno about that. But think again, what did you really want? Oh, you now say
it.

> thanks to don for being polite
> (it doesn't matter that much whether he decides to build it in or not).

Oh, it really even doesn't matter. You only wanted an(y) answer from the dev!
That makes it even more surprising that there had to be a discussion about
previous
threads and their meaning (intended or not). It doesn't seem like an important
feature to you anymore at all.

Can you imagine what these forums would be like when anyone would post a
question
immediately when they think of a feature they think is useful, without even
looking for it in Notepad++ or in these forums first?

The result would be that when someone does search for it, he will only find
a bunch of requests for it. This might lead again to a discussion about why
there was never an answer...

Well, how much of a fix is your "fix"? Perhaps the dev and other users might
also be helped by it.

You may be referring to or be interested in these threads:

"Session autosave?" (Open Discussion forum)
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1946436&forum_id=331753

"Save and load sessions: some peculiarities" (Open Discussion forum)
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1980813&forum_id=331753

I think it would be a logical thing to:
- don't mess with any session file if the -nosession argument/parameter is used
- should (open and) save to the same session file passed as parameter when
implemented
- should only open and save to the default session file if this option is
checked
in preferences and Notepad++ is opened with none of the other parameters
-nosession
and let's call it -sessionfile

Alternatively, -sessionfile might also be used to open without any session by
entering no session filename at all.

Perhaps it would be easier to create one single thread about your Reload Button
Plugin in which you describe what it does, where it can be downloaded and how
it can be set up. Don't forget to mention to remove any other occurrence of
the same shortcut (like F5) from the Shortcut Mapper.

You could then simply refer to this thread, that would also be on top of the
list and by its title alone might attract interested users.

Brilliant! After temporarily deleting the plugin folder copy and paste is back
to normal. In another thread I read that you fixed it for 4.9.2.

PREFACE:

Several times I was asked for the sources of my plugin ConvertExt. But the
sources
of the plugin have been lost; then I've found some source files accidentally,
but it was VERY hard to understand how it worked even for me (frankly, the
sources
were terrible written). So I've decided to re-write the whole plugin from the
beginning - actually, to create a new one.
The basic idea of this new plugin (I've called it "Encodings") is the following:
we take original text in any encoding and then convert it to Unicode according
to user-specified encoding (codepage). Such approach allows to show any (well,
maybe almost all) characters correctly for any locale, if selected font contains
these characters. It means convertion to UTF-8 because Scintilla supports this
Unicode encoding.
I've developed basic parts of the plugin, trying to create a good
object-oriented
model, which components could be used and improved by other developers.
Currently
the basic plugin's engine is implemented - i.e. it can view some text as it
looks in different encodings (codepages) and save the text in its original
encoding.
That's the theory - because I can not garantee that this functionality works
correctly. There is still a lot of work to do.
This pre-alpha release is a pure basic engine, it does not contain any advanced
user interface or any options, but they are implied.
Therefore you can find only the sources on Notepad++ Plugins page - it is for
developers who may be interested in future development of the plugin.

RELEASE NOTES:

Encodings Plugin v0.1 pre-alpha:
- demo version for developers only
- includes just basic engine

The goal of this release is to show what this plugin can do. The general idea
is to create something better (much better) than the ConvertExt plugin. But,
without your help and ideas, I am not sure I'll do it.

How one can add additional parameters for ComparePlugin such as case insensitive
compare, ignore white spaces etc?
Now i have Notepad++ 4.9.1 installed with included ComparePlugin.
Thanks for help.
