I believe there have been similar requests for assembler alignment.

These all feel like formatting code features, if you want the editor to change
the spacing by adding or deleting tabs or space characters. Perhaps you may
find a tool that could do this for you.

The example helps to illustrate the wish, but the input code of course isn't
that good an example of nice programming. Why would anyone write their code
that way?

An other option might be, as asked for the assembler alignment, to have some
spacing per tab character/column. Since there have been requests for a
per-language
tab size setting, perhaps when this is implemented it will also be possible
to have a set of custom in-line tab positions as well. However, this would lead
to another visible format and probably "garbage" when the code is viewed in
a simple program like Notepad.

What do you really want it to be?

I think using any available format tool may be the fastest way to get the
results
you want.

Well, it seems to be working for me (with russian text, both ANSI and UCS2-LE).
But, for UCS2-LE, which is stored inside Scintilla as UTF-8, the text is shown
incorrectly in Multi-Clipboard's menu. It seems you show UTF-8 text in the menu
as ANSI text without previous convertion from UTF-8 to ANSI. However, this text
is pasted correctly into a file.
By the way, the cause of problems of some plugins with new versions of Notepad++
is the following: new Notepad++ uses ANSI WindowProc for Windows 98 and similar,
and uses Unicode WindowProc for Windows 2000 and higher. In particular, it
affects
all text messages: ANSI WindowProc works with CHARs whereas Unicode WindowProc
works with WCHARs. So, the same thing must be done in all the plugins.

So, to you, "Save a Copy" is what "Save As" already does?

What do you want to happen to the original file when "saved-as-a-copy"?
You don't seem to want it to be saved, so would you want to undo these changes?
This could be simply done by re-opening the original file.

In my opinion, it would be an addition if simply a file's contents could be
copied to a newly created document. This way you will always get a Save As
dialog
anyway and you don't mess the leastest bit with the original document, whether
it has been saved or not.

This is also of use when your original file is read-only and you don't want
to mess with it (unintentionally after having cleared the read-only flag) and
don't want to be bothered to first have to save-it-as before being able to do
any changes anyway.

... if you had used the current Save As feature instead of the suggested Save
A Copy.

Perhaps this is also interesting or can be worked on as well:

See also:
[Request]Change multirow tabbar dragging
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=2031346&forum_id=331753

But rather than "freezing" the tab bar only during a dragging operation, I'd
much rather have it always frozen. (Frozen as opposed to "locked" since I want
drag and drop to work.) The way everything moves around so that the active
tab is always on the bottom drives me absolutely crazy and is incredibly
counter-intuitive, in my opinion. The way tabs work in Firefox, especially
multi-row tabs, makes much more sense to me.

The tabs stay where they are and the rows stay where they are. The only thing
that changes is if you manually drag a tab elsewhere (even to some other row),
in which case the tabs "flow" as needed.

Having said that, multi-row tabs are still very useful. I keep a lot of stuff
open, and the old single-row tabs just didn't cut it. NPP rules!

Every time I forget what version I'm running and open the "about" box, I try
to close it by hitting the ESC key. But that never works. Could it?

This is obviously a trivial issue, but it seems to me that many/most "about"
boxes will go away when you hit ESC.

Thanks...

I'm running a clean, installer version of 4.8.5. When I hit ?, Update
Notepad++,
I immediately get: "No update is available."

Any idea why it's not working? I know Don likes to wait a few days to avoid
regressions. Am I just too impatient?

i always thought this feature is something like "branching" a file from a
particular
state on go on working with the source-file while the save-copy-as-file is...
well a branched backup

but let's see, what Don is going to implement ;-D

McLoo

Is it possible to associate a file extension such as .config with a known syntax

Perhaps you also know that you can download these versions manually. I suggest
you do that instead of waiting for the automatic update availability.
