Have Taken a look at the link you sent and have also been involved in this
thread
over at portable apps.

http://portableapps.com/node/13991

The link you sent makes assumptions that it is a false positive despite AVG
doing a file scan and saying it was correct.

My concern is that upgrading without knowing for sure may hide an issue rather
than fixing it

Thanks for your comments but I am still Confused :( am busily deleting every
bit of notepad++ i can find until i know otherwise

Hi there,

I love NP++, and find the Explorer plugin essential to the way I work. Recent
versions of NP++ crash when the Explorer plugin is enabled. :(

I'm not sure which version introduced the crash, but I upgrade to the latest
version and now it crashes. I also did a fresh installation, and it still
crashes
when I enable the Explorer plugin.

Anyone else seeing this? Or know of a workaround?

Regards,
Matt

NppExec 0.2.4 allows to execute user-specified script each time Notepad++
starts.
You can call your bat-file from such startup script, I think.
(ver. 0.2.4 will be available on next week).

Hi there!

We've been playing a bit with this version here at work, and we really like
the calltip feature. However, there are a few remarks/suggestions we'd like
to make about it :)

1) It would be great if it was possible to support multiple xml files for the
same language, as the auto-completion & the function calltips are usually
related
to a specific context. For instance, I would like to be able to have:

   - 1 .xml for the language
   - 1 (or more) .xml for the api I'm using
   - 1 .xml for the specific project I'm working on

Each of these would actually define the context in which I'm working, and it
would make it easier to share the xml files with other people. This would be
particularly helpful for open projects.

2) In certain cases, the information to display in the calltip can be rather
long, I'm think about languages like Lua where a function can return multiple
values, so would it be possible to make the calltip a bit thicker ? Like
expandable
over 2-3-4 lines if necessary. (maybe support \n to let the code define how
he wants to format it)

3) This suggestion is certainly larger in scope, but is there a chance that
we'll see support for variable type detection. Like in this example:

BaseObject *p;
DerivedObject *pDeriv;

p->Whatever()

where npp would detect that Whatever is a method of the baseobject class and
not of the derived class. I know this wouldn't be easy (especially if you have
to make it generic for all languages), but I had to ask :)

4) In the .xml, would it be possible to support that the list of functions must
not necessarily be sorted alphabetically, this would be extremely useful in
order to manage/group functions that have a common context (which happens often
in API's).

Keep up the good work !

EC DevTeam

I downloaded 4.2.2 and indeed it triggers a detection. Though I doubt its valid,
to be safe you can just use another version of notepad++. 4.2.2 is pretty
outdated
and I've not encountered a problem with the more recent versions.
Looking at what Vundo is, I doubt it can place itself in SciLexer.dll, Vundo
seems to be generating whole new DLLs, not inject itself into existing ones.

You can also try to run a sandbox like sandboxie, see if its safe.

But in the end, if you trust AVGs report, you can just remove N++. Notepad++
places data in Program Files\Notepad++, your start menu and in
%APPDATA%\Notepad++.
In the registry the file association key is called Notepad++_file.

Hi,

1. AVG 7.5 is obsolete; 8.0 is current now (I use it);

2. Npp 4.92 works fine here with AVG 8.0, and other recent versions worked with
AVG 7.5.

So updating all should solve all.

Best
Idris

Hi,

Recently I updated to N++ 4.9.2, and every time I open/close N++, I receive
a message from Defense + saying that "nsC278.tmp is trying to execute cmd.exe".
I cannot create a rule for this file because every time the *.tmp is different,
so Defense + always promps a warning. How can I get rid of this? Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi, I want to let you notice a behaviour of notepad i don't like too much. I
explain. When you write "normal" text it's ok. But if i copy some text
containing
some unicode characters, they become other letters. For example, if an accent
is on a letter, this accent disappears. Since i use to write comments also in
languages different as english (and to save also emails copying and pasting
in notepad++), i have problems with that. Because notepad++ doesn't give any
advice, and just eliminates accents... now i know that, but it was not nice
when i sent an email to my teacher, and his name was not wrote in the right
way. He said nothing, and notepad is not made for writing email to send later
but... If I open a document that already contains those characters, there is
no problem, and i can type other letter with accent, and they are correctly
saved. It would be nice if n++ would advice before to eliminate, or (better)
if it wouldn't eliminate accents on letters, allowing to the user to choose
an unicode saving format. Thanks

Hi,

When using incremental search, I hit enter until I reach the instance of the
text I'm searching for. Then, I'd like to be able to hit escape to hide the
incremental search window, but upon hitting escape, the cursor is moved to
the very first instance of what i was searching for in the document.

Thanks,
Bill

Hello!

Here, your find an extraction from my AVG-Antivirus log.
-----------------------
<history>
[...]
<rec time="2008/06/13 16:36:30" user="ich" source="Virus">
 <value>@HL_ReportFindRS</value>

  <attr name="filename">C:\Programme\Notepad++\SciLexer.dll</attr>
  <attr name="action">@HL_ActCleaned</attr>
</rec>
</history>
---------------------------

This happened, when I tried to open an *.txt - file.
I let the virusscanner "desinfect" this file.
Now, notepad do not start with the Message:

SCINTILLA ERROR: Can not load the dynamic library ->okay
106901: Scintilla.init is failed!     -> okay

I will reinstall notepad, but my question is: Do you know the Bug, or am
I really infected with a virus.
Last is not funny and means a lot of work...

Thank you for answering
