4.9: plain text files with only words
5.0: XML file with more than just words, properties aswell, like calltips.

Imprting is just changing the XML file or adding a new one in said location

I have set syntax highlighting for the R programming language. In R comments
are realized with the # symbol.
I found out that if I write that symbol into apices (") to include it in a
string,
everything following is colored as a comment (i.e. closing the string, like
this, "#" , is useless). I suppose this could happen also with other comment
characters

never mind.
I figured it out.
as an FYI - I'd like offer a few words of caution regarding these settings.

(1) yes, the arrows only point in one direction.
If you feed an .ext all the way through, it appears to go back to its original
setting.

<?>so what the heck does that mean anyway</?>

(2) these settings are VERY POWERFUL. Adjusting an extension, (e.g. .vbs),
here will MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR REGISTRY instructing your pc to use NPP as the
default application host for that extension.
~~
now, this might be particularly handy, if you want to create your own extensions
to have them open in NPP. However, be careful of assigning any extensions in
here if you actually want to be able to open or run them in their real hosts.
If you screw up and extension, you can fix it in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.<BROKEN
EXTENSION>.
~~
To more easily access .ini's and .cfg's in NPP go ahead and change the "opens
with" property to NPP for those file types, (i know, duh).

SHAKE AND BAKE!!!!

BUG (settings persistence): the "Attributes highlighting" setting does not get
saved and is reset to "active" on every restart.

if i could make a suggestion, rename the options to something like:
Highlight matching tags
  Highlight tag attributes

one thing that i find confusing in the tag highlighting behavior is this:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
<td id="testId" class="testClass" colspan="8" title="myTitle">
   some silly sample text
</td>
----------------------------------------------------------------------

in this scenario, the tag matching would highlight 3 tokens, the <td, the >
and the </td>. this is actually somewhat undesirable (especially when the
attribute
highlighting is disabled) because you have to look at all 3 highlighted places
to determine where the container boundaries are, there is a discontinuity which
makes it difficult to see the container end at a glance when placing the cursor
in the opening tag.

i recommend that an option be added to highlight just the tagnames themselves
(eg the "td"s in my example) and maybe add a separate option that would style
the tag boundary tokens when the cursor is just outside and adjacent to the
tag. (like current brace matching)

example implementation (pipe indicates cursor position):

|<img /> or <img />| or <img /|> or <|/td>
(cursor just outside of a tag or inside a tag closing token)
highlight both brackets (< and /> and </ and >) of just the
adjacent tag (without finding or styling its complementary tag)

<|img /> or <img |/> or <im|g />
(cursor anywhere inside tag)
highlight the tagname ONLY (eg "img", "td") of the tag you're in
as well as the complementary/matching tag's tagname
...and optionally the opening tag's attributes

i also noticed that the self-closed tags such as <img /> are improperly
lexed...the
closing tag token is styled as "default"....this is a Scintilla issue so i might
spend a bit of time modifying/recompiling the HTML/PHP lexer in SciLexer.dll
to fix this.

regards,
Leon

Notepad++'s ability to minimize to the system tray on Windows is a nice feature,
but I'd like to take it a bit further.

I'd like to be able to *start* it that way, and load it automatically on Windows
StartUp. Yes, I can almost due that now: I can create a shortcut to N++ in
the StartUp folder, and set the properties to Start Minimized. This runs N++
when I start Windows, with a tab in the taskbar. I have to open it and minimize
to send it to the tray, and I'd like to avoid that step.

Possible?

Dennis

Hi,

I already received similar demands for XML plugin. I'll add such facilities
in next XML plugin release.

When switching from double view mode (double pane, i.e. a document on the left,
and another on the right in "go to another view" mode) to the original single
view mode, if the document on the right is horizontally scrolled, it remains
blocked on that position : the scrollbar simply disappears. One has to close
and reopen the document, or to resend it to the "another view" mode to restore
its scroll position.

i've got two little issues to report:

start notepad++, turn on the option "function parameters hints on input", set
language as php, press enter multiple times until caret reaches the middle of
the view, then type if(count(

at this point the calltip is displayed near the top of the screen.

This one can't be considered a real bug, it's more like a cosmetic issue
Anyway, find in files and look for a string that returns multiple occurencies.
Now let's suppose you want to delete all lines that contain this string, so
you start from the first occurence and delete the line. This way the lines
numbers
obviously change and when you double click on the other results, notepad++ will
take you to the wrong line and select some wrong text.
I understand that this is happening since i'm deleting lines, and i can't think
of a simple fix, but maybe you could check, on doubleclicks on find results,
if the find string is still present in the line you're going to display, and
if it's no longer there, don't do anything.

Thanks for your hard work Harry, Don and all plugins authors!

You are right. Just tried the approach I suggested - and the result is exactly
the same.
Actually, the source is opened very quickly as a txt file (no highlighting)
and a caret position is restored immediatly, but the next call to

buf->setLangType(mainViewLang, mainViewUserLangName.c_str());

makes Notepad++ become non-responding for a few seconds.
I can't understand why Scintilla's highlighting is not implemented in a separate
thread. It would allow to highlight the text in background, allowing to do
something
with the file before it is highlighted completely. Such approach is used in
"colorer" plugin for FAR Manager and Bred text editor.
