I usually have several files open from different projects/directories but when
I open a new file it is always the last tab regardless the directory the file
belongs to.

Since usually when we open a file it is from same directory from current open
file ideally Notepad++ should open the new file as the next tab, moving other
tabs to the right.

Thanks,
Renato

Personnaly, I use the shareware Search and Replace program by Funduc Software.
Works very well and fast. Has option for 'unattended' operation, prompted each
time, prompted only once per file, has file extension filter, etc. I'm not
connected with them in any way, but purchased a license from them at least 10
years ago and have never been sorry. See them at www.funduc.com

Well, it should be a >choice< where to add/insert the new tab.

No, not such option! I saw this one in PSpad, but not in np++. I completely
got Your point and agree - in some projects I use only utf-8 and if the file
doesn't consist of any of special chars then it's always necessary to change
encoding after opening file, and it really annoys me, too! I believe it's not
so hard to add such option, You should suggest it to developers!

Hello,

I am trying to use the user define dialog to highlight the syntax of
NASTRAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nastran) input files.

Some problems I am having in doing this properly:

1)
There is a block that begins with "BEGIN BULK" and ends with "ENDDATA"
I don't know what the escape character is for spaces or how to tell
notepad++ to look for a string with a space in it.

2)
Also, within this block, there are lines of data that look like this:

GRID 2 760.0 250.0 0.0

Nastran accepts inputs as lines made of 8 character blocks. So I would
like to be able to colour every set of 8 characters on a particular
line. Is that possible?

3)
The subcase block usually looks something like this

SUBCASE 1
   LOAD         =       1
   SPC                  =       2

It doesn't end with a keyword, rather it is the first blank line. Is it
possible to describe this as a block to notepad++?

Thank you

Syntax highlighting displays correctly for the HTML and client side Javascript
but doesn't display for server side Javascript (between the <% %> tags).

Any way of making this work????

I'm using a hot key (Ctrl+W) to close documents.
When I close all the tabs in the list with (Ctrl+W),
I can't close the last tab "New 2".

Can you please make closing of the latest tab to exit NPP please?

Even though I cannot understand the working logic for the mask right now, your
suggestion WORKS perfect.

Thank you!

I'm used to HTML-Kit's FTP pane where I can right click and create a new file
directly on the server, naming it at the same time.

With Notepad++ and FTP_synchronize, it seems I have to create a new file and
save it locally before I can transfer it to the server.

Am I missing something, or is there a workaround?

Thanks in advance.

I'm using V4.9.1

As OP said, the reminding dialogue box is very annoying while working with
network
files.

So tried disabling this feature in Setttings>Preferences>MISC>File Status
Auto-detection>Enable (uncheck). This works fine. But this check box is
auto-enabled
back again when I re-open the application.

I even tried manually changing "<GUIConfig name="Auto-detection">no</GUIConfig>"
in %appdata%\Notepad++\config.xml. But the problem persists after restarting
Notepad++. This variable is getting set back to 'yes'

Hi

I have always in the save dialog the file extension "all files" selected.
How can I change "all files" on "txt".

Thanks,
Wobi

I'm struggling with this same feature - It'd be useful for the help to give
us access tot eh XML schema, and a few more examples - I've cribbed a lot from
the PHP XML definition, but doesn't seem to work...

I have seen the same problem in 5.0.2. As well as regular files it nativly
supports,
I am using a file that uses a colour/cold folding scheme that I have defined.
