I have just turned off ATI Desktop manager and the problem dissapeared. Turned
it back on and it was back. Looks like it is ATI I need to complain to.

N++ wins again!

A few more details - Desktop Manager on, Multi-display repositioning off and
the problem is not there. Looks like the ATI Dialog Repositioning is the
problem.

Two Qs:

1- How can I setup NPP to wrap text every 50 or so characters?
2- Is there a way to remove TEX commands from the text, like what HTML Tidy
does?

Thanks.

Here is what works for me:

1. Create a batch file in the Notepad++ directory:
    @echo off
    rem runpy.bat

    set /P ARGV="Arguments: "
    echo.
    if "%ARGV%"=="" cls

rem %1 is quoted in shortcuts.xml; do not add quotes to %1 here
    D:\Python25\python %1 %ARGV%
    echo.
    pause

2. Create a shortcut in shortcuts.xml with this command:
    $(NPP_DIRECTORY)\runpy.bat "$(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)"

The line
    set /P ARGV="Arguments: "
is so I can send command line arguments to the Python program.

Another possibility is to run Python with the -i switch so that you remain in
the interactive shell, which is handy for examining the values of the program's
variables.

I have it set up in the Run menu with a Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Y short cut ('P' was
already used by a similar shortcut for Perl).

Hope this at least gives you some ideas so you can develop something that works
for you.

Mike

I'm trying to modify and existing user language. It seems the panels are display
only and not editable for keywords. So how do you modify an existing language?
Another question is how do you define a new language? Again the panels seem
to be display only and not editable. Is there any real documentation of this
feature, or only pretty pictures? Sorry if this has be discussed before but
I did not find a forum search feature.

Thanks Harry.

Not quite the 1 button hot-key option I was dreaming of, but fantastically
better
than nothing...

Thanks again this is a real help.

Just found out about it. I really hope they will put the common search button
back in the upper right corner of the page.

http://sourceforge.net/community/forum/topic.php?id=3201&page

It's the last option in the Forums list in the button bar.
Now you can enjoy TWO steps before you can perform a search. Yeehah!

I'm trying to create a new user defined language and have almost completed all
the tasks - folder, keyword lists, syntax highlighting, delimiters and etc.
I have also created the API file and it works great. I love this NotePad++
program.
The version I'm using is 5.0.3.

However, there is major obstacle that I cannot overcome - I have a conflict
between the keywords/token used for comments and for operators. The particular
language I'm working on is a script language for an image processing program,
"DigitalMicrograph". This script language is very similar to C, so the comment
block starts and ends with /* and */, respectively, and the comment line starts
with //. The conflicts arises when I include / or * in the operators list,
the comment block and comment line will not be recognized. So my current
solution
is to leave every necessary operators (such as +, -, >, =, <, ., &, |, !) in
the list except / and *. Apparently, this is not problem if the C or C++
language
is used.

Is there a work around? Is it possible to "patch" the user defined language
part (LexUser.cxx) of the program so that comment keyword/token always
supersedes
operators?

Cheers,

Vincent

There are MS DOS variables that start with %~
these have no ending % mark,
and appear as they are being read by NPP as unclosed.
%~dp0 is the variable I use most often.

>From XP Help:

<snip>
You can also use modifiers with batch parameters. Modifiers use current drive
and directory information to expand the batch parameter as a partial or complete
file or directory name. To use a modifier, type the percent (%) character
followed
by a tilde (~) character, and then type the appropriate modifier (that
is, %~modifier).

The following table lists the modifiers you can use in expansion.

Modifier Description
%~1 Expands %1 and removes any surrounding quotation marks ("").
%~f1 Expands %1 to a fully qualified path name.
%~d1 Expands %1 to a drive letter.
%~p1 Expands %1 to a path.
%~n1 Expands %1 to a file name.
%~x1 Expands %1 to a file extension.
%~s1 Expanded path contains short names only.
%~a1 Expands %1 to file attributes.
%~t1 Expands %1 to date and time of file.
%~z1 Expands %1 to size of file.
%~$PATH:1 Searches the directories listed in the PATH environment variable and
expands %1 to the fully qualified name of the first one found. If the
environment
variable name is not defined or the file is not found, this modifier expands
to the empty string.

The following table lists possible combinations of modifiers and qualifiers
that you can use to get compound results.

Modifier Description
%~dp1 Expands %1 to a drive letter and path.
%~nx1 Expands %1 to a file name and extension.
%~dp$PATH:1 Searches the directories listed in the PATH environment variable
for %1 and expands to the drive letter and path of the first one found.
%~ftza1 Expands %1 to a dir-like output line.

Note

In the previous examples, you can replace %1 and PATH with other batch parameter
values.
The %* modifier is a unique modifier that represents all arguments passed in
a batch file. You cannot use this modifier in combination with the %~ modifier.
The %~ syntax must be terminated by a valid argument value.

You cannot manipulate batch parameters in the same manner that you can
manipulate
environment variables. You cannot search and replace values or examine
substrings.
However, you can assign the parameter to an environment variable, and then
manipulate
the environment variable.
