I'm trying to learn to program my calculator is Z80 assembly, so I made a simple
user-defined syntax highlighter. But built-in languages have a lot better
support.
For one, you can change the style in the stile configurator and they seem more
free in how many syntaxes they can have.

So, in attempts to get full language support for Z80 asm, I've made an XML file
in plugins>APIs (I tried an API file before that), Tried adding z80 to
langs.xml,
langs.model.xml, and stylers.model.xml. Still no.

Is there a way to do what I want?

> Atleast windows XP should provie an option to change the ANSI codepage (if
you run 9x, well, its not even worth trying :))
In case you are wondering, yes, I'm running XP. But I would have no idea even
where to look for such an option. Plus, the only thing I'd be interested in
changing it to is UTF-8, but it doesn't seem that MS defines that is "ANSI".
And it would appear that what N++ calls ANSI is single-byte only. (I don't
really understand the parameters of the term ANSI these days - it's clearly
broader than just things approved as ANSI standards.
http://codesnipers.com/?q=node/34 highlights the confusion.)

> Would you have an example file somewhere to try it out on if I can manage
to do so?
Sure. Just go to http://budounoki.org, View Source, and copy/paste into N++.
(Or actually, you don't even need to view source - just copy some of the
Japanese
straight off the page.)

But I just discovered something! :) When I just start a new document and paste
(or open a document on my harddisk that is Shift-JIS), N++ initially tries to
encode it in "ANSI", it's garbled. And when I tried this previously, first
I tried the other "Encode in..." options, which just garbled it in different
ways, and then I tried the "Convert to..." options and none worked. This time,
I pasted it in, and then immediately tried "Convert to UTF-8". That worked!
(Apparently trying other encodings first causes the underlying codes to change
in some way.) It also works on documents from my harddisk. Or, if I'm pasting,
I can start a new document and change the Format to either "Convert to UTF-8"
or "Encode in UTF-8" before pasting, and it will work. I have no idea whether
I should include the BOM or not, but that's a different question (for PHP and
HTML web pages, what do you think?).

>> for example, regular Notepad seem to correctly handle whatever I throw at
it
> I assume that does not include russian ;)
True - I don't throw anything but Japanese and English at it, and since my OS
is Japanese, it's not surprising that it works.

Is there any way I can use the existing SQL language syntax as the basis of
a new sql language that has folding?
I would want to avoid re-entering all the syntax information just to be able
to get folding happening. Anyway as the syntax is already there it seems silly
to repeat it.

I noticed that "selecting some text" > "right-click" > "Highlight same words"
only works when the selection is smaller than 64 characters. Any selection with
more characters can't be highlighted this way.

Is this a bug? Would be good to have that with larger lines also.

On very long line, with the automatic wordwrap turned on, the Shift + Home or
End shortcuts returns to the begin or end of the entire line.

In all other software (and without Shift) it's only the befin or end of the
current part of line (the line on the screen automaticaly cut).

Don't you find this is a kind of bug?

And is it possible to change the smart highlight and the matching tags
highlight
color? Because it's generally a gray too dark to see my text. :-(

My problem is as follows: I use custom system colors on Win XP, and believe
it or not, I have black background, and orange text. In Notepad++ the menus
are as expected orange on black, but the tabs are not. The inactive are gray
on black, which is visible enough, but the active tab has black title on black
background, and frankly speaking, it is not readable. Is there any solution?
Can I make the active tab change color to (for example) default color of my
system? The orange line on top of active tab is IMHO enough to tell which tab
is active.

(I ask about this, because it is the only problem I have with Notepad++, the
work area is just perfect, it helps me a lot during my work and I would totaly
accept it as my main windows text editor, if it just let me se the tab title).

Force be with You.

notepad++ is great!
I am experiencing a few problems with the FTP Plugin. The behavior is:
It connects OK
It sends the selected file to the server good and fast.
After sending I work a while and the connection no longer works.
It takes a while to recognize that the connection no longer works.
If I choose disconnect, it flat out crashes notepad++
Making the keep alive and timeout interval longer doesnt work.

MY WORKAROUND:
Make a connection.
Send the file.
Immediately disconnect.

This workaround seems to work even if it is not exactly the behavior I want.
The problems become active only if I let the timeout expire. Then it has
problems.
But you can manually close it before it expires and there are no problems.

Thanks, John

Please update to the latest version with the _installer_ so you can use the
styler configurator to change the colors of tag highlighter, your stylers.xml
is probably out of date

As for the home key, maybe the shortcut you need is in the shortcutmapper, under
Scintilla. There are many options

The latest version allows you to use the styler configurator to adjust the color
of the tabs, try changing that to your windows styles.

Yeah with ANSI I mean anything non UCS-2/UTF-16 or w/e Unicode encoding using
multiple bytes for each character. I know its a common cause of confusion but
I still have to find the term that fits all :)

Windows is capable if internally converting clipboard data to unicode afaik,
and Scintilla makes use of that if encoding in UTF-8. I think thats why setting
to UTF8 beofre pasting works so well (that is, if windows is set to the codepage
you're copying).
Copy-pasting it from my computer doesnt work so well (questionmarks), but just
saving the file and then openinbg clearly shows DBCS characters, which I cant
convert to UTF8 properly.
With garbled, what do you mean exactly (wrong glyph for a single character or
just a character being split into two different unrelated characters)?

As for BOM, I believe its valid to add one in HTML, PHP too maybe and I think
itll help many clients parse the data properly.

I tried looking at the Encodings plugin, but its not exactly my coding style
and thus hard to read, but im still going to write one that just does simple
conversions from installed codepages
