There have been several questions and requests regarding the width of the line
number margin. It is a key reason why I am not using this program.
Any chance of either having the margin width configurable, or else (far more
sensible) having it automatically resize itself wider or narrower depending
on how many lines are in your file, similar to how PSPad works?

yep, worked like a charm. notepad is now embedded in Windows Vista's "Open With"
menu, and etc.

i guess this would be a "bug" in the installation?

anyway, thanks very much.

I keep hearing about this program... what makes it better than its cousin, the
Scite text edit?

Or, for that matter, Notepad 2?

Notepad++ is one of a number of editors based on the Scintilla edit control.
You can find a pretty complete list
at http://texteditors.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ScintillaEditorFamily

What makes Notepad++ superior? That's easy enough to find out. It's free and
open source. Download and install it. Bang the doors and kick the tires.
Take it for a spin. See whether it works for you.

Two questions from a 3rd party observer of this thread who happens to have the
same problem:

(1) Do you just change the name of the main program file (and any shortcuts
you have made), or do you have to do something else, like in the registry or
something?

(2) Does anyone know if this fix would work on Windows XP also?

You will have more success looking for shortcuts.xml in the Application Data
subdir example.
C:\Documents and Settings\......\Application Data\Notepad++

For me it is the '5 minute thing'. Default settings in Notepad++ allow You to
start using it without thinking about it under 5 minutes. With me it was like
that: I was researching the subject of light programmer editors for windows
few weeks ago. It was kinda embarassing when I was opening html file with F4
under Total Commander and it came out within the Notepad window. I somehow don't
trust it, and I somehow don't love it. Last time I used windows platform for
editing code it was asm code, and it wasn't really important if code was colored
or not, it was also very long ago. But now I needed something what could show
me colored code, match the braces, maybe do some suggesting. I downloaded all
those PSPads, notepads2, programmer notepads 2, and whole lots of other notepads
and I gave them a shot. Although I wasn't satisfied with any of them in 100%,
I HAD TO choose something to work with, since I had thousands of other things
waiting, including some minor edits to html/css and I wasn't really feeling
like pushing it to my samba-mounted drive for editing with vim from my Unix
machine. So I choosed notepad++ as the one who will open files when I press
F4 in Total Commander.

Why I did so? Well, I guess it was the most straigh-forward application among
them. I never use the so called "project tree" and that was what disqualified
PSPad. Yeah, I guess I can turn if off, but I will take another app instead
of doing that, because I have no time for it. Another example:Programmers
Notepad
2. There are some drop-down-menus on the bar, and some text input field, that
disturbs me. What are they? Is that a google field? Oh come on! No no no.

Clean interface and minimum friction is what influences user decision. In
Notepad++
interface just stays out of user's way. Simplicity rules.

Some time went by, and when last week I was forced to start heavy web-designing
activity I truly recognized the power of Notepad++. Code styling works excelent,
highlighting the brackets, or even the html tags helps a lot, it opens quite
fast, and doesn't do any surprizes. I feel like I was using it my whole life,
that imho defines an aplication with the interface designed well.

Thank You. ^^

Hi,

I'm new to n++ and I don't know if these things are possible:

1. Switch to the find results pane and back using the keyboard.
2. Pressing "Enter" in find results should bring me to the right place (like
when I double click on the result).
3. Move to next found result using the keyboard. (I think it is "F4" with some
other editors).

Thanks!

Another thing:

4. The data I put in the find in files fields - (Find What, Filters, Directory)
doesn't seem to be saved.

Moreover, the Filters field seems to be determined according to the language
setting of the file I'm working on. The problem is that when I work on a user
defined language, it is always "*.*". Can I change that?

Thanks!
