Well.. that's a lot of info... thank you very much...

ok now... the situation is as follows: i have Win XP SP2 and i didn't use the
installer but the .zip version and i have it on my E:\ drive. At the beginning,
before subscribing to this forum, i didn't know that the beta 2 version doesn't
work with N++ 5.0.3. At your suggestion, i will search for the 1.2 final version
of the function plugin. And regarding the problem that i had earlier that N++
didn't suggest the function name while typing, it is solved. For those who read
this post -> when you start from scratch with editing a file, you have to save
it first as .php or .html or whatever you want to edit and only then N++ makes
the suggestions. You have also to go to Settings -> Preferences ->
Backup/Auto-completion and check the Enable Auto-completion on each input.

Thank you again for all the help!!!

nevermind the 1st question. i think i just need to clear the xml file more and
make sure each function listed in there is a keyword as that seemed to help
one function that i couldnt get to show up or autocomplete.

I am using notepad++ 5.0.3 to work on some PHP code. There are very large
descriptor block quotes. Almost a full screen between the /* and */
deliminators. Is there any way that I can get the comment block to collapse so
I
can quickly browse my code?

Really? I am having no problems myself on Vista Business (32).

I am using 5.0.3 and I used npp.5.0.3.bin.zip to install. All I did was extract
it somewhere and created a shortcut to it, in this way I didn't need
administrative
access (avoids UAC). If you have an administrator account the installer
,npp.5.0.3.Installer.exe, works just fine.

You need to make sure that the '!' is not one of the operators, and that 'Treat
keyword as symbol' is checked under the Comment Line portion of the dialog.
If that doesn't work, you might try playing around with different things to
see if there is something else which works.

To get more information on why NP++ doesn't start up, try running it from a
command prompt and see what output it prints to the screen. If that doesn't
help you, you can then copy the output here, and we can help you trouble-shoot.

You can add 2 more "delimiters" in the next tab of the dialog (used primarily
for delimiting strings by quotes).

To add more than that, you could define the delimiters as keywords, but then
only the markup itself will get colored, not the text within.
Otherwise, you will need to delve into the scintilla lexer code to define the
various delimiters and how they should be highlighted.

Thanks. I eventually got it working by uninstalling yet again, installing an
older version, then letting that version auto-upgrade. It's possible the middle
step was a red herring, and that the additional uninstall was enough. Or
something
else random happened in the intervening days. At any rate, I'm okay now.
