hey Don, just a heads up. lots of lexer fixes/additions...lengthy list indeed:
 http://www.scintilla.org/ScintillaHistory.html

this sounds particularly nifty:
- Direct temporary access to Scintilla's text buffer to allow simple efficient
interfacing to libraries like regular expression libraries.

maybe get it in after the first round of v5.1 bug fixes?

regards,
Leon

I encountered a showstopping problem with Notepad++ v5.0.3 yesterday.  I needed
to search for specific bits of text in over 100 text files and replace them.
Since I had recently installed Notepad++ and wanted to investigate it as a more
flexible alternative, I decided to use it for the process. I had about eight
short distinct bits of text that needed to replaced in some or all of the files.
The replacements were done in "Extended" mode, since there were tabs involved.

I expected it to be a long and mind-numbingly tedious process that would take
me hours, but I became encouraged when I discovered the Replace in All Open
Files option in the search and replace dialog. It would save so much time that
it was impossible to resist trying it. I opened all the files together as a
group, performed all of the replacements, and then saved all the files.

Just to examine my handiwork, I then chose the first of the files and attempted
to open it in Metapad. Metapad immediately complained, claiming that it had
found mis-matched or singular carriage returns, and was thus presuming it to
be a UNIX text file and converting the format! It opened it well enough at
that point, but what then greeted me was nothing short of shocking.

In MOST but not all of the files, randomly one of those individual replacements
had been replaced out of position for each file, inserted at the very beginning
of the file rather than in the position of what it was intended to replace;
the former text was in fact removed but the replacement was inserted out of
place. There were in fact also split carriage returns and linefeeds in a place
or two in some of the files, which is what resulted in the warnings from
Metapad.
The corruption was not even consistent, such that no programmatic method could
possibly have been used to correct it at that point.

My decision to use Notepad++ and that specific feature resulted not in a savings
of time but rather a huge waste of it: it took me the rest of the day to
individually
edit and correct the damage done to each file. This is a bug that REALLY needs
to be recreated and fixed. You can imagine the sour taste it has left in my
mouth.

I think it depends on Notepad++ behaviour. It seems old version of Notepad++
followed the directory of current file, and the new version does not do it.
I can't say which behaviour is more correct.
Maybe I'll add a new option in NppExec: "Always cd $(CURRENT_DIRECTORY)".

Hi, I have installed Notepad 5.0.3 PL on my computer. Everything is working
fine, besides opening .txt files. Either I open is by double click, or
use File->Open, or use drag and drop the Notepad loads an empty page. Even this
file was created by Notepad++. It's very annoying, because it's an great editor
and I use it quite often. So I need this functionality! My operating system
is Windows Xp Professional SP3 ENG, the application was installed 3 times, and
the last installation was "next, next, next". Do Notepad++ needs an extra
configuration?

An option "Always cd $(FULL_CURRENT_PATH)" will be better in my case.

After installing npp 5.1, the log says
Included plugins (ANSI):
 7. Compare plugin v1.5.1

but not in Unicode Plugin. I am very interested in this feature. Will it be
included soon in the standard version, which seems to be Unicode ?

I checked again the installer.exe, and there is no choice between ANSI and
unicode
in the options. I selected the french install in 1st dialog. Does this choice
implies the install of uncode version, and is then the choice of english
implying
the ANSI one?

An answer from Don about the plugins compatibility refers to installing from
the Zip the exe, and I guess the pludgin.dlls, whcih I am unsure how to do,
since there is basically two copies of all files under ansi or unicode
