For the zip format installation, if it's the first time you install Notepad++,
just unzip the ANSI tree from the zip file to desired directory, then execute
notepad++.exe. However, if you upgrade Notepad++ from the previous version,
you have to follow the instructions:
1. Get Run Dialog by clicking start->run (Notepad++ should be closed).
2. Copy this text %APPDATA%\Notepad++ into the text field of Run Dialog.
3. Click ok. A folder named "Notepad++" will appear.
4. Delete 2 files config.xml and stylers.xml then unzip the ANSI tree from
the zip file and launch Notepad++.

I was working on a PHP script. I saved many times without hassle. But one of
the last save had an error and i was told that notepad++ would try to recover
all that it could.
It closed itself afterwards and i opened up notepad++ again to find out that
my work was blanked -_- I had a revision, but it was from this morning and i've
added many hundreds of lines of code since then.
Please help, i might be behind on my work if I'm unable to recover Y_Y

So, if I have already installed the 5.1.2 Unicode version of Notepad++, then
I need to do the former?
Or do I just need to copy the ANSI Notepad++.exe file, since I've already
installed
the rest of the 5.1.2 files? In other words, is the Notepad++.exe file the
only file that is different between the ANSI and Unicode versions, aside from
the plugins?

Is it really so hard to reinstall the application. Do Have you to waste the
time of people helping you and your own? In the time you read both questions
you could have done it easily.
Second thing is you could have tried it yourself.
And no, I cannot help you with this because I don't know it.

The preferences under the MISC tab: File Status Auto-detection, aren't being
persisted; if they are unset in preferences; when you restart npp they get set
again.

Yepp, the same behaviour here, on both PCs. Seems indeed to be a bug, which
should be easy to fix. Does the programmer monitor this forum or is it better
if I point him to this thread by mail?

recorded

List of RecentFiles - has noticed small regress
If name of folders and files in English, that is saved well in list of recent
files.
If name of folders and files in Russian (cyrilic), the first time it is saved
OK. But if to close the program and to start N++ again, names of folders and
files become not readable and such files do not open, and readable records
automatically removed from the list.
In version 5.0.3, which I used before 5.1.2, there was OK.
