(I have been compiling NPP for myself with a different icon, but it would be nice to see an upgrade in the original.) Goce, I think inclusion of '++' in the icon is worth exploring, but I can't really tell it is that (and source code) at 16x16. Custom language icons seem needless (at least to include them in NPP). This proposal inspired me to start working on variations, I will post them soon when ready. I guess I can reply to individual messages somehow, with the added feature of losing space (the text area get more and more narrow). I do not want to suggest any different behaviour of forum software or forum users. Just a thought occured to me that other newcomers to this forum could be confused as well particularly by messages out of sync (not chronological). I will have to read the entire thread again, in case new messages pop up. I hope that you will not bear any animosities against me saying so. I can't work out how the forum tool decides where to position the reply-to message. It's certainly not date order, unless it is something to do with international time being handled incorrectly. When you see a list of message titles, that is called Thread View. If you come to the thread from the top level starting at Help forum , then what you see is not a Thread View but all messages expanded. Clicking on one of the message titles will change the view to Thread View. I haven't yet found a way to go back to a 'Show All' view. Probably something we just have to live with. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. I don't know whether all links are alive, but the one for be400b.zip is. http://www.eunet.bg/simtel.net/msdos/editor-pre.html I got this page by googling for "bingo text editor". Admittedly, you can use the Clear All entry on the context menu for the result window. Or you can forget doing so like I do :-) When I do, the previous search results are automatically collapsed at the bottom of the window, so I can select and delete them. Still not as convenient as an option on the dialog box though. I am a new user of N++, as I wondered whether to switch from ConTEXT, the development of whch had been stalled for a long time. So, like many new users, I have some habits, and I wish I could change them as litle as possible. I'm probably not the only one. There is a whole wealth of information to be found on the offline .chm file or on the wiki, even though it asks to be expanded. I may contribute when I think I have a topic clearly covered; this will require some time still. However, I have found it a bit difficult to retrieve that information at times. Why? Perhaps because that documentation is a little too much idiocentric. It is a good documentation for someone who has the general organisation of things in N++ hardwired already and requires some precision about a rarely used setting. This is a common trait for software documentation, granted. My feeling in looking for other editors is that sometimes, they manage to present the help topics from the virtual standpoint of the user of some generic text editor. While I couldn't spell out a formal grammmar to codify such a viewpoint, I definitely think that feel is lacking from the docs. It may explain why people ask for the same things over and again in forums. I wonder whether it would be diffiult to add an extra "Ask" entry to the help menu. The entry would display a little yes/cancel dialog with a text field where a question could be input. Clicking Search would scan input for keywords, then search offline docs, wiki and possibly forums for matches, returning a list of seemingly relevant hits. N++ is a feature full editor, so it may be worth the effort. And the average user would perhaps get a feeling of where to find what, using the faicility less as a result. About the query/suggestion/bug: I don't think this would work, because the borders are definitely blurred: - I query why something doesn't work as expected. This could well be a bug report. - If it cannot be currently configured, and the behaviour is not documented. Developers may choose to extend functionality ("fix") or document the limitation. No user can tell in advance. And limitations may be removed in future versions only. Fire at will. I see there's a way to open two views of the same file. but sometimes, i need more than two. is there a way to open three of more views of the same file? i'm also having another problem 'coz when you open a view it gets tiled vertically...maybe so you can see them both. but is there a way to open it as a separate tab in the current tab set instead? so that i don't have to scroll horizontally so view the broken lines caused by the vertical tiling. well, there's a workaround for opening more than two views by opening a separate instance instead. only that i have to click on the windows taskbar to move between the views. now, the big problem i'm having is that when i save the file on one view the other views gets scrolled down to the end of the file. is there a way to make each views stay on the same line even if one view is saved? thanks! ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum.
