aathell, I like your answer because it's easy to implement. :P
But thanks also cchris because there are a few little things that are just too
specific to the language. I'll see if it wouldn't be too hard to do my own
external
lexer.

Can that be done please?

I forgot to mention that I need the word count to be reset and start from 1
with each line of text. I mean I need it to count the words of each line, not
the total words of the whole file.

Actually, there is a workaround, and an explanation...
Changing of tab has never changed the current directory. Rather, it was a side
effect of File->Open, because GetOpenFileName *does* change the current
directory.
Apparently, I had had used File->Open so I ended up exactly where I wanted (and
I seldom close the Np++ so it sticked). Subsequent reinstall just made a clean
slate.
Still, it would be a good feature to have...

In Replace (ctrl-H) dialog box:
1/ check Regular Expression mode
2/ Find what: ^(.)
3/ Replace with: my_string\1
4/ Replace All
This doesn't add a prefix to empty lines. If you also want to do that, then
perform this extra step:
1/ switch to Extended mode
2/ Find what: \n\r
3/ Replace with: \nmy_string\r
4/ Replace All
Note that this depends on the line endings of your file. The extra step is
designed
for DOS/Windows formats. Change \r to \n for Unix/OS X formats, and \n to \r
for old Mac format. The first step works regardless of file format.
btw ^(.)* doesn't match anything, nor does ^(.)*$ . Had it worked, the extra
step wouldn't be needed, assuming you wish to pocess blank lines.
