I have four different ways to view compares/diffs on my dev VM:
Total Commander, KDiff3, SourceGear DiffMerge, and WinMerge
KDiff gets used the most (on a per file basis), simply because that is what
my version control is set to use...
I'd highly recommend checking out WinMerge right here on Sourceforge though:

I don't know which localization you use. In the English version you can use
the access keys Alt+u and Alt+d to change the search direction. If your locale
doesn't support that, write to your localizer. Perhaps he will add the access
keys.

yep, wil file one. I don't use that display often, nor rectangular selections,
so I cannot say when it started breaking.
I looked at it when I thought "zero width selections are invisible, but they
should have a Sel: 0 footprint or something that shows they are there". Well,
they are quite visible after all...

Both on my office and home machine, where I have just installed, I confirm
thatSync
vertical is there in the View menu, but not Sync horizontal.
Since I avoided the quirks I got on my office machine, by being more roundabout
abou the files copied from the rchive, I think it is not my srewing it up this
time :-)

I confirm ComparePlugin v1.5.2 does work correctly in 5.4RC. Just tested between
the default shortcuts.xml and my custom shortcuts.xml, which has got its share
of hacking.
I'd try upgrading to 1.5.2. Then, check that your options (dtect moves, ignore
spacing, align matches) are what you think. And not clearing the results does
lead to strange display indeed.

Simon,
hrrrmmm; I hadn't tested the config location using a share, but I don't think
that would present any problems.
Do me a favor and rename any NppPlugin_ChangeMarker.xml that you can find
anywhere
on your system to .old or .bak or something. Then restart N++; the plugin
should
create a new xml in your plugins\config folder.
If it reports that the xml is not found then N++ is using the previous version
of the plugin ( which can happen if you unzipped the RC over the top of an
exisiting
install that had the older version of the plugin ). To resolve and use the
new plugin; just delete the NppPlugin_ChangeMarker.dll and re-copy/extract from
the RC archive.
Please let me know if it auto-creates the config or not; and if it still refuses
to restore the previous settings.

I'm now using WinMerge for my compare companion to N++. I would much have
preferred
to use an integrated compare (can one use ComparePlugin 1.5.2 unicode with N++
(5.4RC) Ansi??? - or maybe I should just use the unicode version of N++ anyway
as I'm not sure what I'll lose??).
WinMerge provides superior viewing of differences and one would be a lot less
likely to miss something.
Christian: when I mentioned the display being messed up after use the
comparePlugin,
that included using "clear results" - which half worked as of n++ 5.1.2. I
remember when the display didn't get screwed up but I'm not sure which version
started giving the problem.

I post this here because I know N++ users are discerning and some also use a
Mac as do I. I've been using an old (but not the free) version of BBEdit on
the Mac and I hate it despite using BBEdit for maybe 15 years. Any
recommendations
would be appreciated.
