They are book marks.
you can do all sorts of things with them. Look in the search option to see the
uses.
You can also set them as a result of finding text.
They are usefull to me for:
- reviewing documents.
- finding parts of the document in context, then copying the whole lot to a
new file.
- quickly hopping between several different places in a document.
I often do this when looking at log files
1. select text I dont need to keep
2. find all occurances & set bookmarks on these lines (with find or [ctl]+[m]
3. delete all bookmarked lines.
This reduces the clutter & helps find important things in log files without
being distracted by similar lines that are of no consequence.

Thanks Christian, but I'm also unable to replace using \x00 instead \0. Also
tried the three search modes: Normal, Extended and Regular Expression. No luck

Not sure if this is intentional or has been picked up yet.
When I change "Tab bar" settings in the Global pane I usually choose Multi-line
and "Enable close button on each tab".
These changed settings appear to get lost each time I restart Notepad++.
This is RC2 (Build time: May 2 2009 - 00:59:12).

Hi all,
Since version v5.3.1 the title bar of Notepad++ window display only one
character
instead of full file name.
It does not happen immediately, usually i have to open a file.
Changing tab changes the window title, but I still see only the first letter.
If the file currently displayed has been changed, i see only an asterisk.
Once the problem has occurred, it never returns to the normal "full name"
feature,
even closing all opened files.
Closing Notepad++ when this error has occurred will cause a typical "error"
sound in Windows, but without any warning displayed. The application appear
to close itself correctly anyway.
I thought it was an "upgrade" problem, but the problem exist also with a new
installation on a completely clean system.
Problem:
title bar displays only the first character of the file name.
closing the application will cause a "windows error sound" but no warning.
Steps to reproduce:
Usually it's enough to open a new file.
it does not happen consistently, but very very often (8 times every 10).
My system:
Windows XP profesionnal Sp3, all updates.
Nvidia video card with latest drivers.
Notepad++ version: 5.3.1

A couple of good points, thank you for the feedback. I reorganized the
WebEdit.txt
to make installation instructions more obvious and complete. And I moved all
the source code to the "Source" subfolder of the distribution package to get
it out of the way. I'm going to upload the updated version soon.

When viewing symbolic links through the FTP window in notepad++, the files show
as folders and don't allow me to open them. Is there a fix to this problem?
Thanks,
Smed

When i use Windows XP, I can type text with unicode (encode in UTF-8), but in
Windows 7 RC (build 7100), those text turn into "?" character, while i can still
type correctly in Windows Notepad.
Example:
In windows XP: ch?t
In windows 7 RC: ch?t
Please fix this bug.

One "funny" thing about the file state icons: if a file was deleted outside
Notepad++ and you chose to keep it (open) in Notepad++, the file state icon
on the document tab turns red.
The file state icon in the File Switcher does not turn red. I thought this was
wrong: it should be red as well.
However, there is yet another funny thing: if you change the file now and undo
this change, the file state icon on the document tab turns blue again... This
of course _is_ a bug: the file still hasn't been saved!
The Windows dialog does as the document tab's file state icon: it gets an
asterisk
in the list if it turns red, but this is also removed with the Undo action.

Notepad++'s so called 'support' for Tcl is woeful.
Tcl is theoretically a simple language syntax wise - but getting syntax
highlighting
right for such a dynamic scripting language is tricky - and I don't think the
notepad++ devs recognize this.
Notepad++ doesn't match closing brackets properly when the bracketed contents
contain escaped brackets/quotes.
The notepad++ folding system doesn't understand Tcl style comments properly
- e.g by incorrectly recognizing an 'if' on a commented line.
Notepad++ recognizes c-style comments within Tcl. This is just wrong. /* is
a common sequence in filesystem and xml work. It's not a comment in Tcl. Neither
is //.
I'd normally just submit a bug report - but browsing the notepad++ reports -
it's clear you're either not listening or just don't care about Tcl. If you
don't care - fine. But don't pretend Tcl is a supported language.
bug 1362466 - closed - yet still present in V 5.3.1
bug 1653066 - closed presumably because it mentioned a plugin - but if someone
had bothered to actually try it out they might have noticed that folding fails
for a procedure containing a single or double quote. (minor bug - but still
supports my claim that Tcl support is being glossed over)
bug 1993287 - closed - donho claims it was 'fixed', suggesting you have to
manually
update your langs.model.xml file. However.. this bug is still present in V 5.3.1
*fresh install*. I don't see how you could close this bug when a simple test
would have shown you it's still there.
bugs
1589507 from 2006
1829963 from 2007
1953192 from 2008
All 3 are open - all related to the awful state of comment highlighting for
Tcl.
A 2008 comment on the 2006 bug even suggests a possible fix which didn't make
it into the release.
This was mentioned on the mailing list last year too:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg01526.htm
l
Someone else submitted a bug report with the title: "Notepad++ hates TCL" and
I can understand why they said that.
