I'd suggest using the SimpleScript or NppJavaScript plugin. The former would
be more straightforward to use, but is ANSI only. The latter is Unicode only.

While there are probably such long term plans - the first Unicode version was
released in Oct. 2008, so "long term" is far ahead -, there is an obious hurdle:
plugins.

Plugins are written by people totally independent from Notepad++ development.
Some are grouped in the NppPlugins SF projects, some are on independent SF
projects,
some still are outside any such framework.

As long as there will be some ANSI plugin not marginally used and either not
superseded or converted so?me Unicode plugin, there has to be two parallel
versions.

While Id say that all most popular plugins are now available in possibly
unoficial
Unicode versions, there is still a handful of plugins used by a minority, but
not marginally so though. These will be harder to get past, since there are
fewer people interested in converting them.

Let's wait a couple year after Oct 2008 and then assess the extent of use of
ANSI only plugins. At that point, it may be desirable to organise the conversion
of identified "useful" plugins so as to eventually dispose of the old ANSI
version.

You can.
To feel secure about it, get a free hex editor and compare say an "ANSI"
session.xml
and "Unicode" session.xml. They are the same. They will be read into different
sorts of strings, that's all.

I like frhed, but there are tons of free hex editors around. Any of them is
good enough fotr the job.

I think proper use of Windows file mapping objects will make the changes trivial
except for the UI. User will have to be reminde that some head and tail stuff
should be invalidated - or there should be an option to load only full lines.
But I haven't looked seriously into this though.

I wonder if the SearchInFiles plugin doesn't do it already.

You posted it on Sourceforge project's IdeaTorrent. They couldn't make sense
of it, which I can easily understand.

You may want to post it on notepad-plus project's IdeaTorrent - look at the
Hosted Apps menu at the top -, but check for duplicates first :-)

I would like to assign a new macro to a hotkey.

The macro should contain the following function(s):

Set maximum linesize for the current file (only !! not permanently)
to 110 and re-format the current file (word wrap style).

How can I tell Notepad++ these instructions?

Thomas

Yep, it would be great. If project has a lot of files, it takes a lot of time
to find file in tree.

I have unicode version of NP, SearchInFiles plugin is not compatible with it.
But seems NP has built-in search in files functionality. I can find needed file
through search, searching \n and filtering by MyFile*, but this is not what
exactly needed.

Version: 5.4.3 (also true in 5.3.1)

I would like to replace text within a selection (but not outside of that
selection).
Unfortunately, the selection is made in Column mode (hold Alt key while
selecting),
and the box "In selection" is disabled in the Replace dialog when the selection
is made in Column mode.

Is this by design, by oversight, or by bug? If by design, I urge the developer
to reconsider. If by oversight or by bug, please fix!

Thanks for an otherwise great program!
