PRESEMINAR

FOURTH WORLD CONGRESS ON COMPUTATIONAL MECHANICS

                MENDOZA (ARGENTINA), JUNE 22-25, 1998

                             SHORT COURSE

THE P- AND HP-VERSIONS OF THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD:
                         THEORY AND PRACTICE

BARNA A. SZABO, IVO BABUSKA AND RICARDO L. ACTIS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The course covers the theoretical basis of the p- and hp-versions of
the finite element method and their proper use in professional
practice. Focus is on the essentials of the theory and techniques of
quality assurance in analysis, that is, the proper use of procedures
by which both the errors of discretization and idealization associated
with finite element analysis can be controlled. Examples are discussed
in detail.
