I checked with the HDFS guys about whether there are known issues. They said a
lot of bugs have been fixed since 0.20.205.0. I would suggest trying the most
recent 1.x release you can manage, ideally 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 (for which votes are
currently winding down). If it isn't fixed there, then we'll know it's not
fixed in Hadoop 1.
