Christopher Tubbs commented on ACCUMULO-1402:
---------------------------------------------

{quote}If we can only provide binaries for one hadoop version, should we
consider making it version 2 ... ?{quote}

I have two concerns about that:

 # I'm uncomfortable getting behind a default version for our binary artifacts
that don't work against any hadoop release marked as "stable". (I can get over
this)
 # It wasn't a planned feature to make Hadoop2 the default. I'd be more
accepting of this proposal if it were a 1.6 feature. (I can also get over this)

I think a better alternative is to keep binary support for only Hadoop1, for
the 1.5 release artifacts, and vote separately on a secondary binary tarball
release built from the 1.5 tag for Hadoop2 support... just so we can get 1.5
out the door. Then, make a ticket for dropping Hadoop1 support entirely for
Hadoop2 in 1.6, due to ACCUMULO-1364.

> jars need to be compiled separately for hadoop1 vs. hadoop2. Both versions
> are used in the wild, and will cause a lot of work helping users who do not
> realize this mistake when they add a maven dependency and expect the one from
> central to work for their hadoop 2 installation. We should package a separate
> hadoop2alpha set of jars to release to central for people working against
> hadoop2 to use.
