John Vines commented on ACCUMULO-1021:
--------------------------------------

Do we want to make it 'secure' out of the box, or do we want it easy to use out
of the box? And by easy to use, I mean avoiding any questions regarding
security that the user may or may not understand/comprehend the repurcussions
of.

And I quote secure, because we can only go so far with an out of the box
implementation so users may have an overextended sense of security because of
this ticket.

> Provide default key management thats secure

> There are a few tickets to support encrypting data at rest in Accumulo.
> Encryption in a cluster is useless w/o good key management. Users should
> have the ability to plug in their own key managment. Out of the box Accumulo
> should provide a plugin for key management thats secure.
