[~afuchs] thought that this was a related bug. Maybe he can comment on what 
this finding warrants.

The tl;dr for the above post is that one walog got left behind. The bad case of 
this was that it was the put and not the delete. The case where the delete is 
left behind is mostly a non-issue. 

I haven't referenced the code directly, but I imagine that anything that should 
be happening atomically and isn't needs to be fixed for this ticket. The code 
you're talking about seems like a candidate for a fix.
