[~ecn] found that ZooTraceClientTest was regularly failing for him. He 
ultimately realized that a sleep before the call to verify made the test pass.

I realized that the 0s delay on retrying the operation was subject to a race 
condition in that the verification might happen before the retry actually 
executed.
