This is a trivial task to clean up unnecessary code. Specifically, to use
diamond operators where possible on the 1.7 branch, and to remove unused
imports leftover from previous code changes.
This will make merging to newer branches easier (to reduce conflicts) where
diamond operators are already in heavy use, and it will establish some more
style consistency across branches.
