Honestly, I think what you are doing is probably the best idea. I'm not
convinced adding this directly to the mini API would be a net positive. I
actually think it would degrade the API slightly. A singleton API implies that
you can, or at least should, only create one, but that's not the case here, so
it would be misleading. We'll see what others think.
