 Review comment:
   Rather than create new variables, methods, assignments for these, it might 
be simpler to just make the original's package-private, so the 
AssignmentHandler can access them from TabletServer.
   
   Having these use the same reference to these objects as TabletServer makes 
it more obvious when evaluating the later synchronization, that these are 
actually referring to the same objects, and not a new object returned from 
these new methods. (Which will help prevent breakage by preventing the ability 
to change the implementation of the new methods.)
