   @DomGarguilo - are you interested in having this assigned to you for an 
initial look?  
   
   micrometer.io seems really promising - but the first steps would be to 
become familiar with the current metrics and  the requirements of metrics 
systems in general.  The Prometheus docs provide a view of the collection / 
display side of things as well as guidance on naming to prevent issues with 
high-cardinality and how it impacts time series collection systems.  
   
   micrometer.io handles a lot of the naming and unit issues and can convert 
between different collection system styles (for example jmx and Prometheus 
styles), so the Prometheus docs really just provide a viewpoint - but keep in 
mind that Prometheus is a common collector / display system (along with jmx and 
statsD as other common systems)
