I didn't look closely at the range accounting. I think you can read a range, so if you do that, then it marks that range as not needed in the page cache. If you read the whole block, then it likely marks the entire file as not needed in the page cache. then I suppose the smaller the hadoop block size the better it is for the cache in that case. > I think that depends on what you mean by better.
