In general, I think it'd be okay to move to 17 for 3.1. The biggest holdup is that Hadoop doesn't have good support for 17 to my knowledge, although I've been running it on a single node with 17 for awhile, and it seems to be fine, with the exception of a few quirks, like start-yarn.sh fails on 17 (I haven't looked into why it doesn't work). -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
