If I did, I think it's because `yq` is a bit more ubiquitous now, and I think that I would prefer avoiding setting a precedent for coupling accumulo-cluster script stuff that should just be for cluster process management (OS-level operations) with Accumulo code (stuff that runs inside the JVM). [Here](https://github.com/apache/accumulo/issues/2138#issuecomment-866979795), but it sounds like the reason for your objection back then has been resolved now. `jq` with json was also proposed, which met your criteria for packaging. Well, at least we have some examples of how to use yq in the linked comment.
