This has already been discussed on the dev mailing list if I remember
correctly. Moreover, the method you're referring has been introduced much more
recently than what you think, in beta2 I think. Finally with Ivy 2.0, we do not
pretend to be backward compatible at API level. So we accept that we break some
code with this change.
