> **Note on where the work happens:** The ALC website content and the `last_activity` front-matter field discussed below live in the **[`apache/comdev-site`](https://github.com/apache/comdev-site)** repository (the Hugo site for community.apache.org), *not* in this `apache/comdev` repo. This issue is filed here for ComDev program/community tracking; any file edits (updating `last_activity`, etc.) should be made via PRs against `apache/comdev-site` under `source/alc/chapters/`. ## Background Every chapter in `comdev-site`'s `source/alc/chapters/` was seeded with `last_activity: 2026-10-19` as a placeholder when the chapter-dormancy flag was added. These dates need to be reconciled with reality so the dormancy logic (a chapter inactive for over a year is flagged "dormant" — shown in a distinct color on the map and badged in the chapter list) is meaningful. **This is a community-engagement task, not just a data lookup.** The wiki page is a starting point, but the real goal is human contact: find out how each chapter is actually doing and whether they need anything from ComDev. ## What to do (per chapter) 1. Check the chapter's wiki page (linked in the chapter file's `links:` front matter) for the most recent event, report, or activity, as a first signal. 2. **Reach out to the chapter's leadership/membership** (contacts are on the wiki page) to ask how they're doing, whether the chapter is still active, and whether they need any support, resources, or help. 3. **Encourage them to bring that conversation to the [email protected] mailing list** — so status updates, needs, and any revival discussion happen in the open where the whole community can help. 4. Update `last_activity:` in the chapter's file (in `apache/comdev-site`) to the date of its actual most recent activity (`YYYY-MM-DD`), based on what you learn. 5. If a chapter is unresponsive or genuinely inactive, note it on this issue — that's a useful signal (and a candidate for the dormant flag), not a failure. ## Chapters to check (14) Bangalore, Beijing, Budapest, Florianópolis, Hangzhou, Indore, Islamabad, Lagos, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Taipei, Warsaw, Xi'an, Ghana. ## Notes - This can be split across multiple people — e.g. one region each — so it's a good shared effort. Pairing with people who speak the local language helps for several of these chapters. - The point of the dormancy flag is to invite revival, not to quietly retire chapters — so a dormant-looking chapter is exactly the one worth a personal check-in. - Context: the single-page chapter model and dormancy flag were added following discussion on dev@community: https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/xvgz10zq05rlt52rwq99963v11rjz0tc -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
