wohali commented on issue #72: How to populate with data build URL: https://github.com/apache/couchdb-docker/issues/72#issuecomment-374714714 CouchDB doesn't start until the container is running; there's no way to insert data at build time. If you run CouchDB ahead of time, then populate your data into it, you could create a `data/` directory that you could simply mount at run time using `-v` Otherwise, you would do better to use something like `docker-compose`.
