When I first started with Erlang, I only ever recall seeing 1 empty line between functions and 0 between function clauses. However, in CouchDB it's essentially the standard (as sporadically enforced/suggested by [emilio](https://github.com/cloudant-labs/emilio)), and I've come to find it much more readable than the more common format. IMO, just because it's uncommon, doesn't mean it's worse.
