I traced this back through the upstream history. PR #1302 introduced the
Service Trace URL construction that passes only `var-service`. PR #1387 later
added the Grafana dashboard, whose Jaeger query requires both `${application}`
and `${service}`, making the mismatch explicit. PR #1397 refactored the URL
construction but retained the missing `var-application` behavior. PR #1569
addresses this mismatch.
