I know you copied the code for these bytes from existing code, but it seems really wrong. The caller should not have such knowledge about the format of the bits. At the very least it, I think it would be better to change setLoaderWriterByte(byte), to setLoaderAndWriter(CacheLoader, CacheWriter) and keep the byte as an internal implementation detail.
