Review comment:
       I've changed it to 20 * 100 (2 seconds overall). I'm not sure if it's 
better to have the client timeout or to return incomplete slot information. I 
would lean towards the former since I'd expect a timeout to be a much more 
common situation that clients could handle.

       I think it's improved now. Exceptions will ultimately be handled in

       I'm registering the function early now. It will return a `null` response
