Head commit for run: 7008f7f309d449d7172b1e4a5cdcce5bac9e9adf / Gustavo Harff <[email protected]> Hibernate 7: keep HQL queries with a subquery intact HqlQueryContext looked for the first "select " and " from " anywhere in the HQL. When the only select of a query was in a subquery or a string literal, as in from X where y in (select ...), normalizeNonAliasedSelect rebuilt the query from that select and dropped what came before it, so Hibernate got an invalid query. The same positions decided the result type, so such a query also got Object instead of the entity. The select and from are now looked for at the top level of the HQL, outside parentheses, string literals, quoted identifiers and comments, and the normalizer keeps what precedes the select. An update, a delete or an insert ... select is no longer normalized: its result type is not used, so it is run as written.
