Concerning the Groovy conversion, we haven't accepted the initial PR for the groovy conversion and we've said we don't want to proceed with the other conversions until the first is accepted. I would view fixing this as a higher priority than converting to groovy. We should target this fix for 8.0.x as it's a performance regression. Concerning the implementation, this sounds reasonable, but I'd want to profile before/after - we may introduce longer run times by looking up the persistent entity. Also, this same issue is going to exist for commands, no? We likely will need a common solution for both.
